Thought I'd beat Renton to this one.....

Am currently serving on an Army camp as a ten man team of munitions specialists. We have a Chief in charge. We exist alongside civvies and Army ammo "techs".

The Army use us as their personal bitches and take us away from our trade work to make up for their chronic lack of suppliers.

Recently there has been a new RSM who seems a very bored man who now sees us as the Army, he wants us in greens (we know that won't happen in a hurry) and has us taking part in Battle P.T, boot runs, stretcher runs, Army fitness tests, Army Military Skills training et al.

Our chief (bless him) is out soon and seems reluctant to rock the boat. We the junior ranks are at an all time morale low and would like to talk to someone with some "clout" to give us some back up to say "actually, these guys aren't Army, they're RAF and they are perfectly capable of organising their own P.T. and have no need for Army military training as they carry out CCS each year".

We are all aware that we are indeed military. However, we wear BLUE and that is very much deliberate. We would appreciate any help as there is a very high percentage of extremely unhappy individuals who are all now even considering some of the less desirable posts in the Armament community, PVRing or re-mustering - such is the pitiful level of morale.

Please help before Renton explodes!!!

If ALL of you apply for posting at the same time, maybe someone would have the sense to ask why.
I hope you get it sorted, as it sounds to be an @rse of a situation.
Good luck, mate! :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Hi.

This sounds very worrying. You are I presume, administered by a formed RAF Unit/Station? Where is your nearest RAF Station? I'm sure we could arrange a visit by the nearest SWO or Station Commander to oversee the situation. PM me with your location and nearest RAF Station if you need help!

Haven't and can't get a copy of the order, but think it came from the very top within the RAF. That all were to wear blues, obvious exceptions the Regt and those deployed/guard. I think only a 2 star can over rule the order. No doubt somebody will come along with the good gen

As for the rest, have you all tried feigning injury when its PT time

Thanks, we are parented by Brize for clothing & MT and Cosford for admin and APs. All of our hierarchy are the Army officers (captain & major). Would love to have a visit from someone who could stem the tide of dispair....

We know about the greens thing and feel that we should be quite safe on that count, and the injury thing is a plan but hate the whole stigma about being a cripple. And the Army medics HATE signing anyone off PT.

Start taking every Wednesday afternoon off for sports at Cosford. Tell the RSM its standard RAF practice if he asks. Use the RAF transport to leave en-masse as a section.

Got to ask, If you're Chief is your 1st RO - who's next in your reporting hierachy? There's got to a zob in there somewhere (and I don't mean a green rupert either)

1st RO - Chief
2nd RO - Captain (Flt Lt) - fresh from Sandhurst and clueless
3rd RO - Major (Sqn Ldr) - old and mad

The Major said he will not entertain any grade above B+ on an annual assesment unless the person has a secondary duty. That's how the Army work and therefore that is how we will work.

Cheers then.

the major who is our2nd r/o actually decreed that no one would receive higher than a B plus on there assessments which have just been done, which has in effect ****ed my chances of promotion next year as ive gone from 2 a- and high to a b plus and high!!!

Not necessarly Renton, I've just sat on a PSB and TBH we didn't look at the
Grades, it was all in the narratives. You may still have a fighting chance.

Surely, as RAF attached to a green unit, you must have some RAF zob hiearchy somewhere, if not directy - then indirectly.

It would appear not. I believe that there is a WO and Gp Capt at at Bicester whos jobs are DSDA / RAF Liaison but they seem to have no influence or bearing in how we are treated by the pongos. We just appear to be stranded with the Army hierachy and have to lump it.

The Gp Capt did turn up specifically to chat to us when he was first appointed but the pongos ruined his meet and greet by whisking him away for a massive death by powerpoint style station briefing (half day long) as he is a higher rank than the Stn Cdr.

Eventually he got to speak to us but he was followed at all times by the Captain to ensure that we could not speak out against the regime.
