Good stuff, real story about a top operator. Never having been much of a shot myself (And nver likely to be), I am in awe of this fella.

Who would not be?
I wonder where one can find out something of the snipers of other nations? I mean, we've seen "Enemy at the Gate", but I sometimes wonder about the English sniper.

I saw a thing in the Telegraph weekend magazine about a US sniper in Sandy parts. These guys must have the patience of a Saint!

Ex-Bay, I have watched several programs about Brit. snipers and their training on the Military channel off the sattelite, and believe me, I would not want to have one of them after me! They are deadly!

Ah, well, yuh see, I don't get the Military channel - yet!
Oh, yes, and I wouldn't want one of any nation after me. I've almost forgotten how to shoot!

That's a scandalous indictment of the profile of shooting in the RAF - sadly true, with the obvious exception of the Rocks. How the feck can they ask people to be warfighters first, when they fail to equip people with one of the most basic warfighting skills - the ability to shoot.

I was on the 25m recently for my guard shoot and one of the NCOs next to me commented on how my group was off from the target (CZP). Actually it was a tight group and the MPI just needed moving by means of a simple adjustment to the sights. What shocked me was that he commented on it negatively without any realisation that the tight group was of far more importance the actual impact point. Not a clue!

3WT, shooting is just as marginalised in the RAF Regiment as the rest of the RAF. It might suprise you to learn that some of the RAFs best shots are/were techies!

I've always been amazed at how low a profile shooting has in the Air Force, okay we are not Special Forces but it constantly amazes me people have difficult even HITTING THE TARGET on a 25m range - christ, how hard can that be??

The British Sniper course is one of the hardest courses there is, the most difficult version being the RM Commando Sniper course and British snipers are some of the best in the world. Patience of a saint and the skills of a ghost are required.

Awesome stuff and Hathcock was one of the elite of the profession.:pDT_Xtremez_28:
