All gods disciples will have frequented this fine Establishment.

The King and Queen, Wendover

roseandcrownwendover.jpg

The Rose & Crown is popular with customers who enjoy sport and talking with friends over a meal and drink. We are near the RAF Halton base and many personnel come to take part in our entertainment. We have plenty of character and are sports orientated. We aim to provide the best sports facilities in the area with this good locals pub having Sky plus a big screen, several pool tables and a satellite juke box. For customers who are less sports inclined we have a comfortable lounge. Situated outside Wendover village we are easily accessible by car for anyone who wants an enjoyable time.

Anyone at RAF Innsworth should look at The Queens Head in Longford. Wins awards year in, year out. Top pub.

Aaaaagh, the Rose and Naafi! I thought base staff were banned from said establishment after a series of 'incidents' with trainees.

If you like game and are prepared to travel, the Pot Kiln at Frilsham in Berks is outstanding. You will need to book in advance, and it is in the middle of nowhere, but well worth a 45/60 minute round trip.

The Chequers at Well (the other side of Odiham airfield) is excellent, although I haven't been there for a few years.

Whilst at Coltishall I spent many a happy hour in The Recruiting Sergeant in the village. The 24oz steak was a particular highlight.

If you like ale and are in Reading then the Hobgoblin is a must, one of the best real ale pubs in the country.

The Black Horse in Ireland Village near Shefford, not far from Chicksands and Henlow is a very good pub/restaurant. Roasts on a sunday are lovely and have some good local ales on tap. It has very weird opening times and its best to book.

Not been there for a while but it was good value last time I was there.

You should try the Cock in the village of Broom. Known locally as the pub with no bar ( it has a door to the celler which they serve from) Good value food and plenty off. several small rooms with wood fires in and an interesting version of skittles in the game room.

It just has to be the ABBEY INN in the beautiful picturesque village of Kinloss, Recent new ownership, new kitchen, Top Chef (the talented, handsome Ken, formerly of Kimberley and Crown and Anchor fame) Top real ales always on tap and not forgetting the REALLY FRIENDLY Locals!! Why not pop in and buy them a pint? Or a wine!!

The Minerva Hotel in Hull, just by the old Corporation Pier (the only British Rail station to not have a single foot of railway track!!). Real Ales and good scoff at a reasonable price - oh, and for all you girls it also sells some of the eurofizz lagers

Best pub in Wendover is the Red Lion, great food and real ale (a bit pricey though)

"Can't remember the name of the pub, but it's on the road towards Aylesbury on the right as you leave Wendover. Good selection of Ale and good Thai food."

Is that the "Shoulder of Mutton"? ...or the "cold shoulder" as we called it as appo's? Times have changed. Used to be an A1 toilet, reserved only for when you didn't want to frequent the 2two Naafi's" in the town.

South of Benson, try out the Highwayman on Exlade Street, Checkendon. Not cheap (I used to work there when in Odious), and was frequented by local rock star, gentry and peasant alike. Its mostly a restaurant now, but I hear the real ales are still good.
