Want to know which was the classic Purple line up?
Ever wondered why Roger Waters wrote "Shine on you Crazy Diamond?
Can't decide between a Fender or a Gibson?"

Ask either Kat or myself and if we don't know, we'll consult our contacts in the music business for you. Whilst I lean toward Classic Rock and proper Metal, I'll be happy to advise on guitar related matters, whilst Kat will specialise in the more modern side of things, along with the classics. Buphoonery is now on the panel, bringing with him several anecdotes of when he toured with the likes of Motorhead and Saxon as a roady. Bill Bones has also offered a tap into his immense knowledge of all things Indie and Punk/Post-Punk. His real name is Sid Vicious and enjoyed a music career with a band called "The Sex Pistols"

Goaters, please feel free to provide gig reviews and any other good Rock related info you may have.

why did Roger Waters wrote "Shine on you Crazy Diamond?

Congratulations Stu, you're my first customer. It was a tribute to former band member "Syd Barrett" who went completely La La, as were many other songs such "Great Gig in the Sky" found on the Dark Side of the Moon album

Why did AC/DC write the song "She's Got Balls"?

Buph - you know damn well why!! Stop being bad!!
Or I will confiscate your wholenut!!!

But.... as you asked.....

"The song is about Bon Scott's wife, Irene. Irene had complained that Scott had not written a song about her. When Scott wrote the song, their marriage was over."

I've been wracking my brains since my post and can't remember who supported Antrax for the UK leg of their Persistence Of Time tour. It was before Joey Belladonna left so about 91 or 92.

Also, one for roverboy (as he was there). Who were those Scandanavian muppets who supported Thunder in Aylesbury in 91? All I remember was the front man wearing a stupid tye-dye shirt and pretending to be a tree by "growing" on stage.

A further point on from there - the band hadn't seen or heard of Syd in years when they recorded 'Shine On...' Then one day, completely out of the blue, during the recording of that tune, Syd appeared at the recording studio to see the band which amazed them all as he happened to re-appear during the recording of his very own tribute tune.

Check me out!:pDT_Xtremez_15:

Anthrax - was it someone like Overkill, Testament or Onslaught? I'll look into it

Cheers for the mint intro RB. It's not unknown for me to sing ''My Way'' at the drop of a hat.

Rover, not trying to be pedantic, but "Shine on" was written by "Gilmour/Waters/Wright" accorging to the sleeve on the David Gilmour in concert DVD.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition with lyrics written by Roger Waters, in tribute to former band member Syd Barrett, and music written by Waters, Richard Wright, and David Gilmour. It was first performed on their 1974 tour.[1] It was recorded for the 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes," but the song grew longer than a single side of vinyl would allow. It was split into two parts and used to bookend the album. Both parts make up the longest Pink Floyd song ever recorded.

Shamlessly nicked from wiki, but it was definately written as a tribute to their ex band member Syd Barrett who went mental.
