The BBC ran 3 slots on this project this morning...Careful what you say about it as the PPRUNE lot will be across to correct your punctuation etc and bash you on anything negative you may think...

Its a great cause. I can remember seeing her for the first and only time flying at the 1990 Leuchars Airshow.. stunning to see such a massive aircraft pull the manovers she did.

A good read as well is Vulcan 607 by Rowland white.. all about he mission to bomb the falklands.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the Vulcan display pilot of 1976. In the beer tent with my in laws when he did a low pass at Coningsby's open day, Ma-in-law jumped backwards and fell over a tent peg, breking an ankle. funny as fnuck :pDT_Xtremez_14:

I remember seeing the Vulcan doing its last ever flight (or v nearly its last ever flight) when I was in the ATC. We were doing the marshalling (well that's what they told us anyway!) in the VIP area of some airshow or other and I can still remember the incredible noise from the engines and the rumbling sensation it sent through my body as it took off.

An incredible aircraft!

Brilliant aircraft! I was a scaley brat at Scampton in the 60's. Our MQ was opposite the taxiway and I used to watch them taxying and get airborne from my bedroom, much to the detriment of my educashun. Saw one blow up as well! Just as I was going to bed one night. Luckily everyone got out ok.

The very first time I saw the Vulcan fly was at Leuchars airshow sometime in the 90's with my old man. I will never forget the noise it made. I would love to see it fly again. Maybe they could whack a B1 bomb bay in it and use it in Afghanimastan!!

I've borrowed a bit from a post by the vaunted 'Beagle' on PPRUNE...I'm sure he won't mind as it's more exposure and the news would appear to be more cheerful:

"Good news from http://www.vulcan558club.com/ is that the total pledge amount is now a commendable £324539.14 !!" (posted today at 1511)

From what I can gather (lots of in-fighting on the thread to wade through and facts are difficult to spot) they needed around £250000 to keep the project going short term. This level of interest may help the Heritage Lottery Fund to put their hands in their pockets to see the project through.

I'm not involved at all in this project but I sense a lot of people want to see it fly again...Me too!

Me wants a Frightning.....

Me wants a Frightning.....

Off Topic As good as the Vulcan was there is only one aircraft that would ever get me to an airshow...The Lightning...first aircraft i worked on at Binbrook and i was there when they left in '88.

I believe there will never be one flying in the UK due to the CAA...might have to take a trip to Cape town to see the ones there.Off Topic

Vulcan was a wonderful thing to see in the air. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a Lincs village thats in the flight path for most bases, and it was a great time to have them fly over my parents house.
Always donate to the fund when i see the collection boxes.
Its the same with the Lanc that is being restored too at the Aviation Heritage Centre.

One guy on my fitters course got the Vulcan Display Team as his first posting as a mech. Lucky bugger, RF.

I was at that airshow, in fact it was that airshow that convinced me that I actually wanted to join up.

The 9(IIRC) ship take-off was awesome, and far too dangerous to be repeated in the same way today. Also other memories being the lower engine being removed from one static display and members of the public being able to get inside the engine bay and have a looksie. I remember thinking, "coo, all of this stuff makes it go!". Seems silly now, but it made me sign on the dotted line anyway.

Also some analogue computer being on display with all the crazy cogs, gears, synchros and log thingie watsisnames.

Personally, I would love to see the Vulcan fly again................then brought back into service.

Fly that bugger around the 'Stan and it'll put the fear of god into the Taliban. Even better low level down the Sangin Valley - that'll sort 'em out.

Real projection of REAL air power!!!!!

For those that are interested there is to be an announcement at 6AM tomorrow...Apparently they've done it...Not sure what level 'it' is but they all seem pretty excited...

A little bird tells me that the website on #1 post of this thread may be getting updated at midnight with what this news is as the chap who updates it wants to go to bed and have a lie in!

I hope it has been a successful bid

Although the site hasn't been updated yet they are making such a big fuss over whatever has happened that I've a sneaky feeling someone may have steamed in with a big lump sum...The news has been released to the various press agencies and BBC are pumping it out from 8am...

Somebody has stumped up a lump sum....£500,000...added to the £600,000 thats already pledged that makes £1.1m and they are quoted as needing £1.2 so it's pretty much raised...I have nothing to do with this project and to be honest it sounded like it was being run by 'crumbs on my cardigan plc' but hats off to them...
