One of the problems with the German aircraft industry in WW2 was that they had too many prototypes being built "on spec". They must have had a couple of dozen jets that could have made it, fortunately (for us) their evaluation and production capability was not up to it.

Even when they did produce something, like the ME262, Adolf decreed that it would be an excellent fighter bomber when, quite clearly, they would have been better employed shooting down Mustangs and Thunderbolts escorting the bombers.
