Bill Frindle the scorer par excellance and font of all statisical knowledge has gone to the big score box in the sky. The TMS team upstairs just gained another member. If you wanted to know who made a hundred on debut for Sussex against Lancashire or who got a double pair in his test debut or any other obscure cricket fact Bill was your man. Started scoring for the BBC in 1966 and he was ex-RAF. He will be sadly missed by cricket lovers the world over.

There was a fitting tribute to the man on BBC Radio 5 Test Match Special today from his colleagues and quite a few anecdotes, one of the best being when Bill first met the legendary commentator John Arlott. Arlott said "I hear you like driving, good because I like drinking, I think we are going to get along"
