Heard on the news this morning that they are ready to get going with the new and improved Hadron Collider. Something like doubling the voltage to 13 Tera-Volts so that these unsuspecting beams of particles can crash into each other with the force of a billion scrums.

I can't help but marvel at the whole thing they've put together and how they are applying bog standard technology that's been around for donkeys years to find things that are so fundamental to life, the universe and everything.

So what do we get out of this? a new washing machine?, an eco friendly version of instant sunshine? or what?

Any Goaters out there with an view on this?

Do we really need to know how the universe started? That knowledge isn't going to cure cancer / Alzheimers / AIDS / common cold / Ebola or give us renewable energy etc. etc.

The money, energy and brain power used would be better used for more fundamental issues.

Because anything we do in science might end up in that big earth shattering discovery that enables the human race to spread our wings and get off this lone rock, thus increasing our chances of avoiding extinction, by spreading ourselves across the galaxy.

Further disprove religion, stop the future generations waging war over books and stories that have been the reason for most historical conflicts....

There`s a small island off the north west coast of Europe, that has basically two sets of middle class white folk who want to break apart from each other. Now throw into that mix all the colours, religions, races, etc, and you think us spreading across the galaxy would be a good idea ???

Potentially, antimatter, dark matter (or proof of it's existence), perhaps the creation of a black hole on earth. Let's hope it's not the latter....

Well, if the latter does occur, unfortunately for you lads it will occur in Europe so you'll be the first to go, then the folk who built it will perhaps realise it'd be much nicer if they had built this collider in the middle east, at least we'd have the satisfaction of seeing the bullsh!t from the likes of ISIS come to a screeching halt before we ourselves take that leap into oblivion.
