RAFP Specialisations.

Hi All

Looking at joining the RAFP and I wondered if there was a serving member who could provide some answers for me.

How available are the specialisations? Judging by comments on other threads it seems that Dog Handler is quite an abundant specialisation. But what about the others - most specifically ICT Forensics.

Secondly; what time-scales are involved in going into a specialistion? Is it a natural progression from Phase 2 training to go into specialisation? Or is there a minimum service/position requirement?

Thanks in advance for you wisdom.

With regards to cyber defence and forensics you need to be a minimum of substantive corporal and that all depends on how quickly you get promoted. I have heard of people getting it within 4-5 years lately. up until that point you can't really specialise although there are opportunities that become available.

The idea is that you spend your first few years learning the primary role before specialising.

Or if you wanna get into cyber sooner, join up as an ICT Tech. I'm doing some cyber security in Germany and off to another cyber job after this.

Can RAFP go down the CP route that RMP can do?

Thanks Chip, that gives me food for thought. What 'opportunities' are you referring to?

Techie_Tubbie - I got trade-failed at medical for ICT Tech because I don't have CP2. So am looking at other options.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

Scottie, I wouldn't consider bomb disposal if I were you.......... red wire or green wire? :pDT_Xtremez_15:

No doubt Chip will give you more gen, but I thought RAFP had to have CP2 especially as they drive on airfields???

Thanks for the advice - I'll steer clear of explosives.

I got a chit from Cranwell saying that I might be eligible for Provost pending the HW Test. Might as well exhaust the avenues before I call it quits.

Have you looked into Int? not sure what the CP level is for it off the top of my head, but I think there may be openings in the Cyber area there too.

Have a read of the below thread, its what some of us have started which is just open to our trade, and an element of it is computer forensics.

As I said, not sure what the CP level is, but might be worth a look

You can drive on airfields if you are CP3

The Lantern Test determines if you are CP3 or CP4 (red/green)

I shall cross everything for CP3, then. Isn't CP4 that bad that you cannot distinguish one traffic light from the other?

Also, Zebra, thanks for the suggest however Int is CP1. I'm a bit off that, sadly.
