Looks like they were allowed to take part in section sports and the like. It's been 3 years since we've been allowed to do anything like that!!

If you aren't first on the list... Well... You are just members of the supporting cast ;)

without aircraft you have nothing to "control" or to "plan" for.

without the engineers all a pilot becomes is a pedestrian with sunglasses and a fancy leather jacket, with self inflated ego.:pDT_Xtremez_31:

It's a test of the applicants resolve, interest and tolerence for reading boring Shoite.

On reading the above example, if they can get past that first section on the boring auxiliary trade of Air Tragic then they may have what the Engineering Elite are looking for.

Without pay nobody would do anything.

Saying that a lot of people got there pay messed up and still came to work.

Putting aside the inter trade bollox, other things deserve attention such as the way those WRAF's can really open their legs.

What stood out to me was the attitude to socialising versus fitness. There is one paragraph in there about what you can do to keep fit which was essentially a list of activities...nothing about stringent fitness levels etc etc and this was at the height of the cold war where if you listen to the cold war warriors we were never in such peril. It spent a lot more ink on telling people they could go out, have cuppas, drink, socialise, drink some more, try to fire into WRAF's and so on...no wonder it was an attractive options! I also liked the 'every day started with a cooked breakfast'! If it did you'd soon be back at stores for some bigger trousers...

I may have embellished the firing into WRAF's bit but what else was there to do after all the drinking and socialising?

Had the flight line mechanic role rammed at me and swallowed it in 1976 ! Ended up as a FS Mtd in the end.

brilliant life and career very much enjoyed upto the last couple of years, when there was 100'000 less airmen than when I joined.

Yep, sold the Flight Line Mechanic hook, line and sinker. Had I known a little better I might had gone single trade.
Didn' t get to wear the shorts until first trip to ASI though. Still have fond memories of my time on B Line.
