Bizarre, we were the original 9/11.:pDT_Xtremez_14:

I've still got the tie somewhere.

Original 9/11 indeed;). Was there a Tie??? I never got one, though I've got some photo's of the shift wagon I was in 90 seconds before it was Swissed Chessed.

I'd almost forgotten about that. I'd just finished a det there from Aldergrove and loved the fact that the fences around the place were only about 4 foot high. Great med centre though, lovely and quiet.

I remember it well. I was a scaley back then and was in the Education Centre at the time of the attack. All very exciting for a 16 year old!!

Mortar attack on RAF Bishops Court

Mortar attack on RAF Bishops Court

I was in the Sargeants Mess when the mortars were fired. I can remember, after the first mortar exploded the duty barman, a Rock Ape, saying, X#@+= they got us. When the second exploded he yelled incoming and we all hit the deck. I didn't just hit the deck I tried getting under the carpet ;-). Very scary.....

MC will remember this, 20 years ago to the minute, Mortar Attack on RAF Bishops Court. Though nine bombs were fired, not five.

I had only left by a few days, after a 3 year tour, when this action took place, its likely I would have been in the Sgts mess playing bowls at the time. The IRA had in the recent few months started placing spotters at choke points approaching the camp to identify service mens cars, scary times, as they had generally not bothered with us. It had got to the stage that I had an RAF Police armed escort to take me off camp to Lisburn and Downpatrick for banking purposes.
One of the best postings in the RAF, most of the time, sorely missed. The civilian support element were simply wonderful folk, no side to them at all.

I was in the Sargeants Mess bar, crapped myself almost as each round that went off.

You were lucky it didn't affect your memory.
