Got back into Newcastle on Saturday night.return flight was £30 ish each. flight takes 1 3/4 hours. Prague is 1 hour ahead of us.
It was the best foreign holiday Ive ever had. It was actually a sort of honeymoon/anniversary holiday. Weve been married 16 years and have never been on a honeymoon as I was in trade training after just joining the RAF when we gopt married in 1991. Since then weve always had kids in tow.
Anyway, we stayed here

very cheap. 3 nights double room was £105 with breakfast and free taxi from the airport(25 mins drive away) Its a very clean tidy hotel and as you can see its only 1/2km from all the town centre stuff. The road to Wenseslas Square had lots of shops etc, including an very smart mall(nicer than the Metrocentre) and also theatres/opera houses and some excellent resteraunt/bars. Its also on a tram track.
We visited Charles Bridge, walk there. The Castle(entry £3ish)(get the tram, no. 22) and the National Museum(entry £2ish)(walk, as its at the top of Wenseslas Square) aswell as loads of shops etc
There are loads of trams going everywhere you could want to go. You must buy a ticket before getting on one, and you must stamp it in the machine in the first tram you get on. Failure to do this is a criminal offence. We saw one couple being hauled off the tram and the police called for failure to get their ticket stamped. You have 90 mins travel after you stamp. Tickets cost 20crowns(50p) Trams are very clean and comfortable.
Exchange rate was approx 40 Crowns to the £.
Beer in bars was about 65p a 0.5L. Food was also very cheap. 3 course meal for £8.
In supermarkets, again everything is very cheap. Beer 25p a 0.5L bottle. Their crisps are very nice aswell.
Clothes seemed a similar price to England. Although there are lots of cheaper shops. They have Marks and Spensers, C&A, H&M, Tesco, New York New York etc.
Wenseslas Square has most touristy things, night clubs casinos etc. You must try a Vacloav sausage from one of the half dozen stalls in the square. The are foot long sausage in buns with mustard and onions, gorgeous.
The best beer I found was a dark beer called Kozel Cerny, its lovely and smooth and sweet, not bitter at all. Sold on draft in some bars(the one next to the hotel) and in bottles in supermarkets. Lovely
The Czech Food is nice aswell, I had Moravian Ragout and Goulash Executioner, both rich tasty meat dishes.
Try Grog aswell, a spirit served with sugar and boiling water.
The mulled wine sold at the stalls is good aswell.
I didnt know anything about Prague before going, my wife had been there 2 months ago for a conference.
I had thought it would be grimy, full of stag parties, freezing cold, miserable, full of romany/slav people and slightly scary.
It wasnt any of those things.
It is absolutely beautiful, the buildings are superb, far nicer than Britain. The people look very afluent, smartly dressed, no sign at all of any Chav uniforms. They look sort of Germanic without being blond. Most can speak some English and all were polite, friendly, and just lovely.
I know its impossible to get an impression of a whole country just from walking a few streets of the capital city, but I loved what I saw.
I saw hardly any street sellers(asking you to come to a bar or night club, these people were black) I saw no asians, and also no fat people at all.
I loved every minute of it, and though it seemed alot better than England in many respects. We plan to go again in March.
Wear good walking boots/shoes.
It wasnt nearly as cold as I expected. Everywhere you go,the buildings seem to hav their heating turned on full blast, so outside gets heated up aswell.
Thoroughly recommended.
Ill add anything else I remember.
