After reading this, I think the P8's first job is already on the books.

The memo, from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, says there are just 12 ships "to monitor a space three times the size of the surface area of the UK".

Russia has a load of new 'Stealth' submarines and I believe have threatened to place them in areas allowing them to happily watch our movements all day long, even allow them to tap into that giant cable at the bottom of the Atlantic.
