Hi,

I got a new laptop today - my old one was so virused and slow it was unbelievable. To see (not responding) every 2 seconds was doing my head in and today that all ends than god.... but, after starting up the new one which has 4GB of RAM, pentuim processor and brand new I dd not expect to see the (not responding) while chatting on facebook after 4 hours of it being out of the box!! its worse than the old one FFS, even touching the keys freezes it....what the hell?!! is this my broadband or something?!! my anti-software installed only hours ago tells me its 'high PC usage'.....there's nothing on it!!!!! no programs other than intenet explorer and itunes which I put straight on it. I coud not have a conversation at all, every time I tried to type it froze....

Can anyone offer why the hell it is not responding, after 4 hours??!!!

Also make sure you don't have two firewalls or anti viruses running as that will cause havoc too.

What browser are you using? And what software?

I used to get (not responding) all the time and I did a very simple thing. I uninstalled the heap of sh!t bloatware that is iTunes with its autoupdating habits and that cleared it right up.

Im using I.E 8, I do prefer Mozilla normally but would have thought that seeing as there is absolutely nowt on it to potentially slow it down I.E would be working just fine after just a few hours!

Thanks for the the other advice, i'll keep playing

Turns out that it was adware that got into the system after 12 seconds! Techs advised a system restore and see if it happens again...

That is pretty good going. So essentially almost as soon as you switched the computer on you tested to see if you could still get to those specialist websites? Good man.

If Adware got on there toot sweet then I'd download Malwarebytes & do a full system scan to be sure nothing else sneaked through.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Then install;

Spybot SD,which will run quietly in the background;

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Then for an AV programme, Microsoft Security Essentials;

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

I use these three things & have had no bother,they're all free ware to boot!

Many thanks, i'll get amongst these...
