Location: DCMT Shrivenham, near Swindon
Published course length:5 Days
Cost: Free to MOD employees
Quick description: Serves as an introduction to project management in general, with a bias toward PRINCE2 terminology.
Who should attend:Anyone who is involved in project management or would gain from learning about project management, although complete project novices would manage the course ok.
Exams and certification:No exams or certification, which is probably a good thing, leading to a relaxed atmosphere on the course.
Homework: None
Working day: 0900 approx 1300, 1410 to cease work >1600
Course finish time: Should be finished by lunch time on Friday

What does the course cover:
  • Intro to project management
  • Organizing the project
  • Project plans
  • Product based planning
  • Project start-up
  • PID & lifecycles
  • Project stages
  • Estimation
  • Change control
  • Config management
  • Project controls
  • Quality
  • QA and reviews
  • Reports and meetings
  • Exception process
  • Closing the project

The course also includes some group exercises.

Attendees are from a cross section of the MOD, from civilians to senior officers from all forces. The course is useful since there is no bias toward management in the forces.

The attendees on the course that I attended all agreed that it was a useful course. The instruction is of high quaility using lecturers from Cranfield university.

Free tea/coffee and biscuits (if you get there quick enough).

Next step after completing this course? PRINCE2, The 3 week information systems project management course.

This course is regularly under subscribed, so you shouldnt have any problems getting on the course.
