Thinking of starting HNC (either aerospace or mech engineering)

Who offers these via distance learning and is part of the ELC scheme?

Anyone completed one recently? Any experiences good or bad are most welcome!

Teeside University offer a variety of engineering HNCs, and are ELC accredited, as are Yeovil College.

do any of them give you acreditations for prior learning/experience?

I'm not sure mate, but you might also want to look at Middlesex or Portsmouth Universities work based degree courses, which give you lots of APL if you're working at the right level.

Lincoln also offer the BSc in Engineering Management which offers quite a bit of APL.

Probably worth dropping them a line to find out for sure.

Think First or Pay Later!

Think First or Pay Later!

Look at where you want to go in the future and if there is a future in Aerospace/Aircraft engineering in this country! HNC/D and degrees seem to come and go. I would advise you to see if it is accredited by a professional organisation (RAeS/IET/ImechE...etal) or if the HNC/D is linked to an accredited degree by one of these professional organisations. It’s alright getting APL if the end qualification is recognised by your future employer – don’t waste your cash – you could get a decent HNC/D in engineering and use your resettlement to narrow the field aerospace.

In my experience the AEROSPACE field of study is more to do with dynamics/systems theory ,theory and design/manufacturing. The AIRCRAFT engineering stream tends to cover the aircraft flight/systems theory, maintenance and business/operations. Having talked to people who have done the Engineering Management it seems to be aimed at process management and business operations as applied to engineering.

In short do the leg work check out the course content and the credibility of educational establishment that is delivering the qualification. You can easily pay for something that is worthless – have a nice career!
