A mate of mine (prison officer - now retired) had overtime payments stopped for his rank and was given TOIL instead.

He built up nearly 11 months TOIL over 4 years because the management didn't enforce any rules for taking the time off within a certain period. One day he went to his boss with a leave pass for 12 months leave. His manager said no, the Union told them to reconsider, the management said they wouldn't so the union called for a work to rule while negotiations took place.

The following day he got 15 months pay plus 5 weeks leave.

Additional nugget on minimum break periods...

if thr CS is part time then the minimum break is 20 mins instead of 30 mins
