Hello,

I am considering applying for the RAFP and would like to ask some questions regrading a career with the force, I am posting here becuase I would like some informal and honest feedback from individuals who either served with the RAFP or have experience of them.

1) The qualifications required for the RAFP do not surpass GCSEs, I have GCSEs, A Levels and a Degree, I have no problem with this and yet some people have said I shouldn't bother and should consider other sercurity minded roles or the RAF Regiment. I figure I could still go in the RAFP and work hard to progress up the ladder, reaching a high level in there? Is it common for Graduates to enter the RAFP like this? Does it really matter what qualifications people have? Would I stand out from the rest of serving RAFP Personnel?

2) What are the specilised roles like? I am quite interested in pursuing something like the Tactical Provost area, and short notice branches. What's the level of training like, is it accessible and what other deployable roles are there?

3) Do the RAFP generally serve across the world? Or are they in practice more likely to be based in the UK?

4) Is the same academic and adventure training open to RAFP as other branches of the service and the military? If you want to seriously further yourself is it worth going into the RAFP?

Thanks, just would like some honest answers!

Tom

1. You can have all the qualifications in the world but if you lack common sense, well then you'll definately stand out in the crowd. (some on this forum may disagree with me there). IMHO If you want to get ahead in the RAF Police, join as an officer, you'll probably be more of a man manager but you'll be able to get into the specialisations a lot quicker! The NCO path can take a long long long time (I know from experience :pDT_Xtremez_42: )

2. The main Specialisations are Special Investigations Branch and Counter Intelligence (or whatever they call themselves now). Once in these fields there are further specialisations such as SOCO (scenes of crime), Computer Forensics, DFCIT (flying complaints) - Computer Security etc.

Some of the specialisations you can qualify for at the junior rank level are ATSy (AIr Transport Security), Police Search Teams although you would not be permanently employed on these duties.

3. The majority are UK based, the number of postings abroad have dwindled just like the rest of the RAF however most operational theatre's have RAF Police serving there in numerous roles.

The Tactical Provost Wing is the ' short notice deployable' arm of the RAF Police. They carry out ATSy duties outside of main operating bases both here and overseas, the main effort at the moment is Force Protection - a lot of their training is geared towards 'infantry skills' They also can deploy search teams and are responsible for the RAF Close Protection teams. If you were to join as an officer the chances are your first posting would be as a flight commander on TPW.

Any other questions feel free to PM me.
