Having worked with lasers, I am somewhat sceptical about this.

Firstly you could polish the skin, secondly you could put a second skin around the main tube and allow air to flow through it. Not unlike a jet combustion chamber.

It wouldn't take much modification to thwart or at least reduce the effect.
