Is this long overdue recognition or not?

"The Defence Secretary has today announced his intention for new recognition of the contribution reservists make to our armed forces.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon
The Ministry of Defence is considering introducing a post-nominal decoration for all reservists serving 10 years or more.
After a decade of continuous service, personnel would earn the right to signpost their reserve service using letters after their name to identify their contribution to the armed forces"

What do regulars think about this? Should they get this recognition whilst regualars don't?

I personally think its a load of old bollocks all of this 'letters after your name'

I see it all the time, I think its a snobbery thing, a 'look I think I am better than you' statement.

OBE, MBE... all fine. But people who put things lie MIst and such like after their names are just tying to impress and big themselves up. The same goes for this example.

With the mass take up of degrees, letters after your name mean buggar all to anyone except those in your specialis area.

I wonder what letters they are thinking of ...

RAFVR?
VD & Scar?
WC & Chain?
CDM?

Therefore, you don't think I should use FLWB after the Bridgnorth DI who told me I was a "French Letter Waving in the Breeze"? Not even FL? No? OK.

Goldilocks and the Three Qualifications

Goldilocks and the Three Qualifications

One day Goldilocks was walking in the woods and came upon Treehugger College. She was tired and fancied somewhere to rest her laurels. She went through a door marked FRAeS and thought, "Oh no, this qualification is too hard!" She then went through a door marked NVQ2 and thought, "Oh no, this qualification is too easy!" Finally, Goldilocks went through a door marked PVR and thought, "Oh yes, this qualification is just right!" At that very moment, the Three Walts returned from the walk in the woods they had taken while the ink on their qualifications was drying...

Looks to me like another useless 'perk' trying to get people into the Reserves which is increasingly being called upon to do the job of regular service personnel.

On a separate note, I use post nominals extensively in my professional capacity, but this is the only time they are ever used.

I'm very happy for my post-noms to make it clear I'm a reservist, but it doesn't seem fair to regulars (particularly officers, who don't even get a medal). LS&GC doesn't seem to work as a post-nom, in my opinion; maybe we need something like the Canadian Forces Decoration?

I have heard, and I don't know the accuracy of the gen but I'll throw it out there, that they are considering a reduction in the qualifying time for LS&GC. If so they are following the way of the Home Office with looking at Police Long Service award and the QPM criteria.

I use Post Noms after my name but only in a professional capacity. In fact it irked my boss somewhat as according to my last SJAR, I was more qualified than he.
