Normally the preserve of the Corps of Royal Engineers, it seems the CMD Demi-Gods of 5131 Sqn of the RAF are getting in on the act of pretending they do Improvised Explosive Device Disposal in Afghanistan!

http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/D...eriedTeamPrepareForFirstHelmandDeployment.htm

Make no mistake - the RAF blokes of 5131 Sqn will not be rendering safe IEDs or anything else bar legacy munitions (i.e. blinds and abandoned shells and the like) that pose a minor hazard to the people of Afghanistan.

IEDs will continue to be dealt with by Ammunition Technicians and Ammunition Technical Officers of the RLC - and no-one else!

Walter Mittys, just say no! :pDT_Xtremez_30:

Incidentally, I'm piloting a plane tomorrow (by 'piloting a plane' I mean I'll be on a plane).

You'd of thought that the guys on the front line would be grateful of all help given in getting rid of IED's!

Unfortunately for the 2 guys being repatriated today at RAF Lynehem - they fell victim!

Its not a p1ssing contest Crazy Legs! Lets hope you never get the need to wish you had help from 5131 or the Naval Equivelant who are out there helping too!

C0ck! :pDT_Xtremez_25:

Crazy legs, are you saying that the reports a load of ball.

Or are you a Rather Large Company stacker who cant accept the fact that the RAF are going to do the job you want, but have failed several times to do :pDT_Xtremez_35:

Go count your shells, dry your eyes, and deal with it.

Picture the scene:

Callsign is doing its drills with val down the track, get that certain return off the kit that makes him stop dead in his tracks and the beads of sweat start racing down the spine just that little bit faster and the ring piece starts its 5p - 50p cycle.

Goes into his confirmation drill and eventually finds it is a legacy munition left behind by the rather careless Russian forces some 15 years ago.

No worries, leave that one to the RAF....... lets crack on

A blatant fishing trip from the knuckle draggers on ARRSE. Very poor by their usual standards, someone else must be using the regimental brain cell.

So is it RE's or RLC spunkbubble?

If you are going to troll at least check your drivel first.

What the troll is saying is that CMD is the domain of the REs, IED is RLC. IED and CMD are two different elements of Bomb Disposal.

What he's saying is that the article states that 5131 will "confirm, disarm and remove the device"

No they won't.....they'll be working with 33 Engrs in High Risk search....AND NO MORE

RLC Ammunition Technicians and Ammunition Technical Officers are the only ones that do that.....

It's sort of like sitting at the end of the bar and saying you're in the SAS...when you're not :)

Sounds to me like the RLC suppliers ( that have done a bomb disposal course ) are a bit upset because the RAF armourers are doing the same thing as them ......

LOL - yeah, that's it.....hit the nail on the head there Johnny

My course was 18 months long.......how long is the RAF one??

No problem with anyone who passes the High Threat course conducting RSP's.... I do however have a problem with people 'bigging it up' in front of reporters and tellng blatant lies.
