    NY Honours 2024

https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/royal-air-force-new-year-honours-list-2024/ Well done to those individuals named - a couple of which I recognise, so I guess I'm not so old after all! Question for those serving though with regard all these team commendations - does everyone get presented...

    Strike!

For the first time in my life, I will be involved in a strike tomorrow. Driving 20 miles to picket isnt on my agenda - I'll leave that to the locals. For a bit of fun, what suggestions do the Goat have for me to do on my unexpected day off?

    Jubilee Gongs

https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/the-queens-birthday-honours-list-2022/ Congrats to all those recognised. Two names I recognise at the top of the list - Rich Knighton, who was Stn Cdr Wittering and a thoroughly nice chap, and Garry Tunnicliffe who was OC Admin at Colt up to closure, and...

    NY Honours 2022

Congratulations to those who have received honours, particularly Sir Chris Whitty & Sir JVT. A more devisive one - Sir Tony Blair, who has been personally knighted by HM, who probably knew him better than anyone. My view is that, Iraq War aside (which a lot of us took part in), he has been the...

    Face Masks

As dress and deportment, bulled shoes and smartly pressed uniforms are so important in the RAF, have they produced a face mask dress code? Is there a specific type to be worn? Have stores got ones in KD, OG, DPM for OOA? Do you wear masks with the RAF crest in the middle, aligned to the...

    Old Folk to be banned

Looks like the over 70's are to be ordered to stay indoors soon. It may make shopping a bit easier - Morrisons in Stamford today was rammed full of OAPs shopping like the curfew was starting tomorrow!

    Ignoring

I know how to put someone on ignore, but why can I not put moderators (or one in particular) on ignore. The moderator in question (IMHO) doesn't moderate, merely shit stirs, belittles and generally argues black is white with certain posters. I don't want to see his views. I don't want to see...

    Unable to quote in replies

I think I've found out a trend in this. If you are replying to a post that has no "quotes" already, then it will allow you to quote the post. If the post you are replying to has already quoted some other post, then you cant quote and reply to their post. Mods/Geeks - over to you!

    These Migrants in Dinghies

I see that another six migrants have been rescued from a sinking dinghy in the English Channel. More than 100 people have made this hazardous journey now. As these Iranians are paying smugglers several thousand in cash, then it appears that they have the funds (or access to the funds), to buy...

    Queen's Birthday Honours 2018

https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/queens-birthday-honours-list-2018/ Well done to all concerned. I must be officially a KOS because I don't recognise a single name on there this year! However, I was amused to see that RAF Wittering P1 have received a "Team Commendation" - Most fizzes...

Drunk Tanks - Coming to a City Centre near you

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42506706 Very disturbing that 15% of all A&E cases are due to excess alcohol. Whilst I applaud this initiative, I'd also like some sort of card machine there so that those in society that think its big and clever to get so p!$$ed that they need hospitalisation...

State pension triple-lock should be scrapped says MPs

The "triple-lock" on state pensions - which has protected the incomes of the older generation since 2010 - should be scrapped, a committee of MPs has said. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37871681 Even though I'm within 20 years of reaching pension age, I think this is a sensible move. Old...

Yanks and their obsession with compo

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/teacher-t-speak-spanish-sues-080459709.html Perhaps I should sue the USA for being entirely suitable for being their president apart from the matter of not being born in the USA, or maybe NASA for not employing me as an astronaut.

    British Lions - Why Bother?

I'm no Rugby Union expert, but I do have a question for those who follow the 15 a side game. England have just beaten Australia 3-0 - a very comprehensive victory, and although it was a first 3-0, its not the first time England have beaten them in their own back yard. So why do people get all...

HR in "Working till 6pm shock"

http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafconingsby/newsweather/index.cfm?storyid=668760B6-5056-A318-A8752E9199AA55E3 In 1994, whilst on 54(F) Sqn, my three man admin team began to cover our office from 0730-1800 Mon-Thu, because we realised that our night shift Engineers who started at 1630 had to either come...

    Women Piggybacking on Elite Sport

I see that the T20 World Cup is about to begin, featuring the world's greatest cricketers competing in a tournament that has generated millions, if not billions of funds for the sport. Its also created global interest amongst people who would never have watched a cricket match that lasted 5...

MPs noses in the trough again...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34200969 It seems that 20 MPs ignored repeated requests to repay allowances that IPSA deemed ineligible, and the amounts have now been written off. As a former JPA auditor, I was expected to recover every ineligible claim from the individuals pay - I once...

    Wierd Dreams

Anyone had a bizarre dream? I had one last night: Me and my family were in a cart being pulled by Louise Minchen & Bill Turnbull off BBC Breakfast News. They were on roller skates and Louise couldn't stand up, which meant we kept crashing into parked cars!

    Rip-off Garages

In March 2009 I took my 51 plate Volvo for an MOT at a national chain in Grantham. Whilst it passed, I was told by the mechanic that the exhaust was on its way out, wouldnt last until the next MOT and they had taken the liberty of providing me with a quote for a replacement (£300) that was good...
