Your thoughts on modern cars "safety" aids?

lol love it:) I do realise that. I'll give you another example where the BMW optional extra stalky thing is not required: Skinny road just enough space for 2 cars to get past each other. Tractor coming from opposite direction, as we meet and pass each other, good ole lane assist tries to...

Your thoughts on modern cars "safety" aids?

For the last 4 months I have been driving a lovely new works car and myself and colleagues are very impressed with it(y). Its got 2 annoying safety features that we all agree we turn them off every time we start engine (annoyingly they default to "on" each time you start up) Firstly...

Yeah, remember it well in the 80/90's. We had the whole Wed off due to having to drive a fair distance and the match being 5 hours long, sure claimed petrol money back too :) Then there was the day off for college in my last 5 years checking out all the local totty.....Them dam cold war years...

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Thanks bigjd, Very informative, I'll pass it on. Just a couple of questions: When you arrived at AFCO, are the staff serving and in uniform or are they Capita? Incidentally. I remember my first working day at Bzn all them years ago meeting a Cpl who was just at his leaving 22 year point...

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Thanks for your replies. Was mainly asking as like I'm sure all of us over the years have been asked the question "what's the process for joining the RAF?" A family member asked last week and obviously I didn't have a clue as so much has changed over the years. So interested to hear from any...

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Obviously lots of stuff in the media ref recruitment problems again at the moment. I'll keep it brief. As an excited 16 year old leaving school around 1980 I rocked up at my local city RAF recruitment office. Walked through door and met a CPL and SGT in uniform and then over the next 12 months...

    Pulling the plug?

And if the nearest motorway is 100 miles away it's irrelevant? With respect, I think EV's, smart meters, air source heat pumps all great things to save the polar bears are really good. But unfortunately, you speak to anybody in any of these sectors, they are all trying to run before they can...

    Pulling the plug?

Due to my work I popped into a large car dealership today. The head salesman who has been there for years said as above....They really aren't there yet and made a point on the recovery system that is supposed to "charge" up on breaking.....no end of complaints about not working very well.

    Pulling the plug?

I've just ordered a new Ibiza, petrol. should be here middle of March. looked into EV's. Maybe been brainwashed on so many things on interweb? I live very rural so chargers not in abundance. What puts me off is them catching fire and hard to put out? Playing safe, the flip flop gov's will...

    Ex Red going down.

I find it bizarre that Pilots and groundcrew had different hotels:oops: That really makes you feel part of the same "team" NOT. As Eng in the 80's to early 2000's on normal Sqn's. Jocks and techies always shared the same hotel, and by the end of the night always ended up in bosses room...

Interesting pic of the modern RAF

If I was the lady in the middle. I'd be speaking to the RAF clothing department, as clearly her skirt obviously is not tailored as well as the lady on the right? maybe due to lack of hips? Am I allowed to say that? Well I just have. I left in 2004 and I doubt I would of saluted an officer...
