I'm looking for two ILS Engineers with (as a minimum) UK military SNCO experience. Commissioned experience is also highly prized, and the current company ILS group reflects the mix. Topics of interest are LCC, LSA, IPL, IETP, AGE, C1C, MSG-3, TLS. Contact me through E-Goat. Indicative...

    Defence Discount Service

The Defence Discount Service has just sent me an e-mail telling me that with my Defence Privilege Card (cost £4.99) I can have a 6% discount on the Apple site. That is the same discount given to a 4-18 year old school child (who doesn't need to pay for a privilege card..). I can't help but...

Lockheed Martin propose a new C-130 Sea Hercules variant for Maritime Patrol

An interesting snippet from Flight International: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/singapore-lockheed-martin-announces-f-16v-development-368323/ "......proposed new variants of the C-130J Hercules, the C-130XJ and C-130 Sea Hercules. The Sea Hercules would incorporate P-3C Orion...

No civil servant cuts at cash-strapped MoD

I'm reading the following: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/8911359/No-civil-servant-cuts-at-cash-strapped-MoD.html The self serving sh*te being served up by the civil servants is unbelievable. What is going on here?

    Car breakdown cover

Are there any recommendations on car breakdown cover I should take? I'm with ADAC (ADACPlus policy) from when I lived in Germany last year. I now live in France and will need to renew or get new cover in the next month. Do I stay with ADAC or seek different cover? I have a 9 year old Opel...

    Canned compo sausages

Does anyone know if canned compo sausages are still retailed? Apparently Westlers (I think) were at some point selling them (or something very similar to them) as cans of 'Sausage in lard'. Do any Goaters have any info, or do I need to contact Westlers, if indeed they were the retailers? I...

France is in lead in Libya, apparently.

According to 'The American' http://www.american.com/archive/2011/august/retiring-the-world2019s-policeman France is in the lead in Libya???? I believe the mission rate is in the UK's favour, markedly. It is interesting to see how the US will not acknowledge UK leadership. Btw, the French...

50th Anniversary NATO Tiger Meet - No RAF presence

I see that, according to the link below: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2011/05/19/356878/pictures.html the RAF had no presence at the 50th Anniversary of the NATO Tiger Meet. It's a good job the RN could send a Merlin! Does the RAF have a 'Tiger' squadron anymore? Does it really...

ACM Jock Stirrup puts boot in at Defence Committee

I see that Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup has broken cover at a Commons Defence Committee this week and condemned the SDSR that occurred last year as totally cash driven. He highlights the loss of Maritime Patrol (Nimrod) as a cut too far. Whilst I'm sure he did the best he could as CDS...

Hypocrisy of Labour Shadow Defence Secretary over Military Covenant

<<"The Military Covenant" (From The Sunday Telegraph) Jim Murphy, the shadow defence secretary, said: “The Prime Minister appears to have finally done the right thing. If true, this is a retreat from an inevitable defeat in Parliament in the face of real anger from forces families and...

4 more Tornados to Libya announced

I hope that David Cameron may be beginning to understand why he should not have cut military spending so far. Maybe he will have a 'reflection' period on defence cuts; much the same as he is allegedly having over NHS cuts!

Mid East uprisings - Present Government's Falklands moment?

I can't help wondering if the uprisings in the Middle East will presage a "Falklands War" moment. In 1982 John Knox, the Conservative Defence Minister, was all set to shred the forces, in particular the Royal Navy, as I recall, when the Falklands War erupted. It would be interesting to see if...

Disband E-3 AWACS at Waddington and join NATO at Geilenkirchen

Why was E-3 at Waddington not considered as a saving for SDSR? It must be more cost effective to sign-up to be part of the Geilenkirchen set-up. The RAF could possibly sell their surplus (and more advanced) assets to NATO. At least they would then have some aircraft with much quieter engines!
