Stingray, my apologies for not replying sooner.
took your lead and was able to identify a spare port to 'play' with however, and as you hinted at the start, the working ports are locked down.so once the fibre was confirmed to be ok, got NATS to remotely flush the taps and hey presto.
Weather is $hite today, so im lookin for an early stack tonight, it being POETS etc.
Anyway, thax for your time and reply and hopefully i'll be able to return the favour - do you need anything translated from welsh/ French/ German?.. cheers, nige'

    cheers for the reply Sting.
I have a 3 Met Office ccts - routed thro the cisco switch and onto a BT Cisco router.
the 3 are FO and post weekend - yes we have army on exc. between the ATC and BT Exchge and have been feckin about in the comms pits - no chance to check yet. anyway the circuits are a 'Managed service' so OC Ops had to book the faults to NATS, who then get BT on site.
My question is, as i have one FO cct working (and flying has now ceased until 0500) can i substitute the other two FO cct into the working port to see if they come up - or is the port managed (i.e. would the switch notice if a new FO was put in place alebeit for 5 mins). i do have a fibre team in tomorrow who can light source the 2 suspect lines, but thought i could do something when there was no flying.
there is power available, i powered down and back on agian to see if the switch/ FO would reset itself- give me a radar, or surface to air missile anyday.
    would appreciate yr comments, nige'
