I'm lead to believe that having joined the RAF over 12 years ago, I am now a soldier first, tradesman second. Ok then, when can I get:

1. To wear CS95 every day instead of the blue stuff
2. Compulsory PT 3 times weekly
3. Better kit to deploy with
4. My WO promotion (I am 37 after all)

Is it not what you feel is real?

I know stupid question and all!

Mind you, no offense, I find combats are alot better looking than the RAF rig!

You've completely missed his point. If he'd wanted to dress like a plant and get shot at, he'd have joined the pongo's or if he failed that he'd have become a rock.

This unfortunately is the way the whole RAF is going. Join up as a tradesman, finish trade training and for the rest of your career/job find yourself doing someone elses job i/e guard. Everyone is now doing everyone elses job such as supply, policing and airfield defence, god knows how we manage to launch an aircraft into the sky!!!
All because Bush's Puppet Government would rather spend the Defence Budget on something else less worthwhile.

Does this happen all over in the RAF then?

Myself and a load of other TG1 lads got attached to the Pioneer Corps for 2 months during Ex SS II. And what vital job was I doing ? Control of entry at BRITFOR HQ. The one good thing was that a lot of people at PMA got asked awkward questions by the high ranking people that were there, and wanted to know why JT's were doing guard in the middle of the desert instead of servicing aircraft at their units.

On the plus side we enjoyed reminding the troop commander, who had no idea how to handle us, how much were being paid. Which was more than him !

5 day Force Protection course (JHC) for me next month yipee! :pDT_Xtremez_30:

If we ditched the RAF blues and all wore CS95 it would save a $hit load of cash. Plus its far more comfortable to wear, although being on SH you do tend to wear it alot.

Well for me blues are just fine I did join the Royal Air force after all. I would kick the s**t out of the PC under my desk with my size 11 Boots! Wear the appropriate uniform for the job in hand I say.

do the maths

do the maths

I disagree
Once you add in all those badges.....

I think the cost of a whole blue uniform must cost about £2.50 judging by the quality.
Has anyone else had trouble with these new shoes/ laces. get through a pair a week at the minute.

Plus it adds 10 mins onto my morning routine rolling my sleeves up and getting my boots on, and can't get away with just a jacket in tescos doing the shopping on my way home.

Nope, sorry, I'm a fan of CS95. Layered system makes it practical for all duties, inside or out. Easily washed, easily ironed (no need for loads of dead straight creases, theres no straight lines in nature!) Blue beret with RAF badge tells people what service I belong to. We can then get rid of blues (apart from No1's) and spend the savings on the correct kit for Ops (although my cynical streak knows this wouldn't happen!)

Can't agree with you there Stax; yes there is a time and a place for CS95 but when I wear it, I wear it out of necessity not choice. Yes it is practical, much better then we have had before; but it does not take a great leap of faith to think that once we all wear CS95 as our standard working dress we would soon become part of the army. (RFC 2010?). I joined the RAF, it has a proud history and I wear my uniform with pride; I did not join the army so it’s the blue for me

Heartily agree with you on that one Stax easy to care for and look military (although RAF personell have the ability to wear it and look like the least military person in the world, a skill I applaud). Plus it can easily be renamed Combat Angler 95.:pDT_Xtremez_30:

Blues all the way! I have the universal problem of looking a complete scruff it CS95, of the 2 shirts I have one fits my torso perfectly but its sleeves stop at my elbows and the other has proper sleeve size but bellows out like a tent at the waist!!! oh to be a fat techie.

plus I have a tendency to plaster my trousers with all kinds of dirt and grease - so after numerous trips to clothing stores I now make do by wearing my coveralls over my CS.

...and I'm a fan of Stax in CS95. He looks so hot in it (in a non-gay metrosexual way of course)! :pDT_Xtremez_15:

CS 95 all the way for me. Less uniform then to take up space at home so then my other half will have more wardrobe space to fill with ****. Then again maybe blues are worth keeping!

If I wanted to wear greens I wouldn't have bothered to do so well at school and then join the army. Rocks and Movers may well want to blend in with the background, but I certainly don't. Definitely blues for me....

I'm not sure how to take this thread. Having scanned some of the posts on here, it would appear that some people joined the RAF because they liked the colour of the uniform!!!:pDT_Xtremez_08:

Personaly I joined because it was the service I wanted to be in and not because I liked the cut and colour of the uniform:eek:

I have worn both blue and CS95 during my career, have to say that the CS95 is easier to look after (and free for all). Forced to make a choice, I would say CS95 and concur with most of the other posts on here supporting ditching the blue working dress.

If people are that worried about their identity that they feel the only way they can maintain it is by wearing a particular uniform, it leads be to begin to think that maybe some of the sh!t that the Army spout about the RAF being civies in uniform might be ture!!:pDT_Xtremez_41:
