SAS to lose secrecy

I took part in an exercise in the late 80's in which the SAS were playing the role of the enemy forces. During one attack on our location a voice called out "yo smudge you old *?@t". I looked up to find myself face to face with a familiar face. It was a guy (JB) that I had served with in the RAF. Could happen you might think, ex rock or the likes but this guy was an ex stacker.
I remember that he used to run for miles, in all weather, on the roads that surrounded Lossiemouth. It was just assumed that he liked to jog to keep fit.
A few years later I bumped into him again after he had been RTU'd back to the RAF after an indiscretion involving 2 married women (dont ask). He was wearing the old thunderbird jacket and among the usual Long Service, GSM etc medal ribbons were the MM and DCM ribbons. Not wishing to go back to being a stacker he left the mob, taking redundancy but not before getting involved with a married WRAF Officer. I suspect he was offered redundancy to save face.
I have heard of rocks going on to the SAS but stackers? Anyone else know of people from trades that you wouldnt expect going on to such glory.

IF we did, would it not just prove that the Mail was correct )OP). Let's keep the lid on for these guys past & present.

Quite! They should retain their anonymity if they desire it. They were given a go by the government of the day, any issues should be answerable by the politicians alone. :pDT_Xtremez_25:

I heard Andy McNab on radio 5 talking about dating websites FFS......I am sorry, but what's the point of being in the SAS if you can't just point at chicks in the street and pick em up by just flashing your pixelated mug and looking cold and distant?

One official said: ‘At present we cannot even name personnel if they are killed on operation'.

If I understand it right, a soldier is "on loan" to the SAS from his regular unit.
So if one gets killed in action, what's wrong with "Soldier Xx died last Sunday whilst doing whatever-it-was. He was a member of ABC regiment."

Looks like a sniper has already started legal proceedings.

And I heard on Newsbeat (Link) tonight that a system that was set up by some students for people to donate money so that soldiers who could purchase kit they needed (they had to register) had been stopped by the MoD due to security reasons.
