Afternoon all, the question is this:

New serviceman fresh out of Halton box arrives at new unit, applies for FQ to be reunited with wife he has missed for these last nine weeks, gets address and wants to move personnel effects from home to new address.

HR have said that this is a 'first move' and is therefore not entitled to a paid removal. However, looking into the JSP752 (before I am pointed at it!), the only reason I can see this being a non-entitled move is if the serviceman was married mid-assignment and then set up his first home.

Can anyone clarify the position with an authoritative post?

Thank you

I've got to admit; having sifted through the JSP 752 also, I cannot find anything regarding a 'first move'. Those who are eligible and ineligible seems to be clearly explained; I may be missing something though.

What I would say is, why did he not move from Halton directly into MQs at his new unit? How long has he been at his new unit? Has he claimed DA and at what rate did he claim?

He couldn't apply for FQ whilst at RTS because graduation date is not final until all elements are passed.

I have advised him not to claim DA until he is in FQ (public removals or not) due to the vastly differing rates for SFA and SLA moves.

I agree with you about the JSP, it seems clear cut to me but HR still talk about his first move!

Again; ask the shiney where does it state, in black and white, about the first move being at personal expense. I know that thought it used to be the case but wondered if the rule had changed with the intro of the JSP.

I'm certain this is about first setting up of home and not first move. If newby has lived with his wife prior to joining up then he should be entitled - I used to authorise it anyway!

Thank you to those who concurred with my understanding of the JSP.

HR at the new unit have now, after some research, revised their opinion and will allow the move.

Mods, please feel free to close this thread.

Once again thank you.
