It seems our american friends are doing it again. This came from an Americal BBS I sometimes haunt:

---------------------------
" As you say it is very early days to evaluate the Rockhopper discovery in the Falklands

http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLDE6461W620100507

Many American readers may not realise that Mrs Clinton took it upon herself about 3 weeks ago to announce that UK should negotiate the sovereignty of the Falklands with Argentina.
At the time the Brits were ****ed off with Clinton because she hadn't bothered to tell them about this US change of policy beforehand.

It will be interesting to see who the US oil industry would prefer to have controlling the Falklands if these finds prove economic"
...............................................................................

I hope this is merely rumour. Too many of our dead are still there to ignore this problem.

So the Americans want us to give the Falklands back to a country that didn't even exist when we first staked our claim. Perhaps we should offer to negotiate once the good old USA opens up negotiations with the Native Americans about giving back the land that they nicked in the 18th and 19th Century.

Someone needs to remind her that it was negotiated. It was called black buck!

That is the nugget of the truth at the end of the day.
Their entire stance is based on presumed legacy rights of a previous Spanish Claim in the 17th Century.

They lost their claim when their bestest mates, the French, bottled going toe to toe with us and left the Spanish to face us on their own after trying to force our established colony out.

The Argie's entire claim is based on that 300 year old fracas, and they have already lost one war to us over it. If the Yanks start trying to tell us what we should do about it, I should hope they get told, quite firmly, to mind their own fcuking business.

Oil in the Falklands

This might be off topic. The us media and Obama are calling bp British petroleum when they bp has been a multinational for the last few years. Definitely a shift in policy against Britain from the spams.

If we can look back at who owned what in the 17th Century....can we have America back.

Oh and I think they owe us some tax.

Clinton can keep her nose out. This argument has already been solved......

Back in 1982.

Anyway, Kristina Kirchner had the audacity to call us colonialists. Right hang on, it was just a rock that had a few Frenchmen living on it and just happened to lie to the West of an imaginary line drawn down from the Azores based on some agreement between Spain and Portugal from the 1400's.

We were the first to claim Sovereignty as far as I am aware.

So if we are Colonialists considering the fact that there wasn't really an indigenous population there and the fact that we have handed back most of our overseas responsibilities....

What does that make the Spanish then considering what they put South America through?

Stop saying 'give the Falklands back'. That implies we took it off the Argentinians; they have never owned it in any sense apart from 2 months or so back in '81. We don't really own it; it belongs to the Falkland Islanders (Well FIC anyway), we just defend it (no disrespect to FIDF).

On a seperate note about the US; its only the western liberal press that still love Obama and his democrats, the majority of the US are truly annoyed at him due to both domestic and international policies and he only got the swing because he wasn't GWB and lots of minorities got excited about having the first coloured POTUS.

This is a strange argument from the Americans.

They want us to hand back sovereignty to the Argentinians? Hold on a minute... we don't own them. They are owned by the people that live there.

We protect them from the Argentinians because the Falkland Islanders ask us to. That is what is meant by the term Protectorate.

How many plots of land around the world are 'owned' by the Americans that have disputes about ownership rights?

Guantanamo Bay among others!

It has to be said that most spams think the creationists are a ring-pull short of a six-pack.

Spoke to one of my neighbours who works witht he oil industry down there at the moment and he says they have hit a good hit of oil, but there is a lot of talking going on with the Argies over this and they are sorting a deal that will keep both happy. Its just the press scaremongering so he says.
Either way we need something from this oil to get the country out of this **** mess we are in , with the land of Stornoway soon to be started on laters this year the UK is cashing in on its reserves now to get us out of the financial pish we are in.

Let's hope we don't blow it all on propping up the nanny state like we did with the north sea gold then.

I thought that we leased that to them?

Wasn't it the British that kicked all the locals of the islands in the area so that the Americans could be left in peace?

HTB

We do lease it to them but I thought it was good old uncle sam that kickrd them out...could be wrong though..stand to be corrected.
