'Any' Trade My arse

I recently applied for a job on the Manning site. It asked for Sgt - Any trade.

After many months/weeks of waiting for a response, I finally got today:

"Unfortunately, due to the FMDL within your trade being at 83% you can not be released for trade"

Just frustrating that with the FMDL at 83%, we can still PVR and be out in 6 months, yet we’re not being offered any sort of retention bonus.

Also annoying that this is the same reason I got turned down for this job 2 years ago – with the same FMDL level being quoted. So why isn’t the FMDL being adjusted/reviewed?

I can’t help but feel that for a job advertised as ‘Any Trade’, the AV trade is being discriminated against. Maybe, ‘Any’ should be changed to ‘Any except ATAV’!!!!

I know I'm going to get a hell of a load of bitchy comments back......so as Tashy would say....."Crack on!!!!":pDT_Xtremez_32:

"But like the murphy's he's not bitter" :pDT_Xtremez_31:

Now I'm off to find a pair of ear defenders as he's starting to sound like a Phantom RAT :pDT_Xtremez_15:

Same here, applied for an Any Trade job and got turned down on the basis that there weren't enough JNCO's in my trade and then again when I applied for an Any Trade OOA. I wouldn't mind but manning have never updated the OOA volunteers register to reflect this change.

Bunch of @rse mate :pDT_Xtremez_25:

Surely the logical thing to do is to target those trades with the higher FMDL figures - it seems that its someone who is too lazy to type out which trades can apply - "any trade" is just a method of seeing who volunteers...

Bloody ridiculous isn't it?

What is rediculous is when someone applies for the job, turned down as you said above. Look on the manning site later to find it now an urgent requirement, re-apply and get turned down again.

A colleague of mine applied for an urgent requirement any trade female only post. when she rang up and asked about it and told them what trade she was they told her that everytime someone from her trade applied their desk wouldn't release them.

??????????:pDT_Xtremez_34:

Let us see these mythical FMDLs for TG1 then and we'll have a clue if we can apply or not.

Ladies and Gents, when a post is advertised as "SNCO Any Trade" it simply means that the post can be filled by any SNCO as there are no trade specific requirements or qualifiactions needed to carry out the duties associated with the post, i.e watch keeper, top-cover guard etc. It does not mean that the job is open to any trade as, like you have found out, the manning situation in your particular trade may well dictate that you cannot be spared.

Perhaps that statement could go as a sub header on each vacansy bulletin, thus avoiding the confusion?

Cheers Scribs....believe it or not, it takes a post on here to explain that to me....as the desks never bothered!

A genuine thanks BTW, not a ****-take!

Still think the whole issue stinks though!

Things don't seem to have changed very much, I found out quickly that TG11, at least for telegraphists, was pretty static. Hardly any promotion, couldn't change trades, and you had to spend the majority of your time drinking exotic beers in far distant places.
