I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting heartily sick of calls from a faint voice with what sounds like a Spam accent. My caller id comes up with 0301 which I confess makes a change from "International".

So (being the glutton for punishment that I am) I phoned BT and (eventually) spoke to an operator and I asked what 0301 meant.
"It's probably one of those Telemarketing numbers", she said.
"How do I stop it?" I asked
"I'll pass you on to the department" - Click!
pause
"Hello, can I help ?" said a bloke.
"Probably", I said. "I'm getting calls from what my caller id says is 0301; Telemarketing?. How can I stop them?"
"You can't," he said. "It's something to do with international agreements."

After a few words on the subject of privacy and "international rip-offs" I packed it all in.

So, lads and lasses all, don't bother thinking that the TPS will get you out of this junk. there is NO filter!

It's those silent calls that really get my hackles up. Every time I answer the phone to be presented with such a call, I feel an explosive murderous rage building up inside of me. :pDT_Xtremez_25:

It tends to go in circles. They hit every number in a certain area untill you answer and speak to them. It's an automated dialing system.
I had lots of problems with them untill I sacked BT and got another supplier with diferent dialing codes.

Yep, you can tell its a telemarketing call when you get that few seconds of silence while they are checking who answered and then someone asks if they are speaking to Mr PSBM.
I either hang up as soon as I hear the silence, or mess around with them.
The other night it was loft insulation, twice in one night. The second time I acted as if I'd been sat by the phone waiting for their call and that I'd done nothing but think about loft insulation all evening as I sat and watched the footie. The guy didn't know what the fcuk to say and eventually gave up :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Anonymous caller barring puts a stop to this nonsence, BUT if you are expecting a call from, say, the hospital about an appointment they will probably withold their number so won't be able to get through.

You could always make a bit of cash out of this sort of thing.

Get yourself a premium rate number and post it up on loads of notorious spamming sites.

They ring you, you get loads of cash. :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Now, if only I could get a premium rate email address......

I don't often get caught with these things.
I have Caller id and it an answering machine. If it's "Withheld" or "International", I don't answer it and if it is my local Library or whoever, they'll leave a message.

But it was the 0301 prefix that had me puzzled.
