Out of Trade to Out of Trade

Hey Goaters,

I am currently out of trade and have been for 1 year, however I have seen an AFCO job advertised and was wondering what implications would it have on my carreer to go from this out of trade job to another out of trade job.

Your thoughts and experiences please. :pDT_Xtremez_34:

I'm not sure it can be done, I know that AFCO staff can't then go on and apply for RTS but that may be due to the nature of the job in an AFCO and then moving onto Halton.

If your meaning how this would look on a promotion board, then from reading the Brief for president and board members you should not be unduly disadvantage for being out of trade.

...And of course if you are on a higher pay band, then stand by for "incoming" fire about being paid uber-teccy wages when you are not doing your own job!!!

(if of course you are a member of TG1 or 2, then its perfectly ok to pick up your salary whilst spending 6 years out of trade)

some fecker please bite!!!

As stated it should not have a detrimental effect should you be boarded for promotion - if anything is will show you in a positive light. The decision will lie with your Career Manager who will decide if you can be released from trade.

If you are TG1/2 and you are going to an AFCO, then you'll essentially be doing an admin job....which is (for some reason???) on the high pay band anyway, so not a problem!:pDT_Xtremez_30:

Have you get plenty of AFCO experience then Oberon? AFCO work does require you to work in the same office most days and use a computer, you'll also be expected to interact with the public at careers events and such like and also interview potential members of the RAF having the final say on their suitability among other things. You would be working evenings and weekends sometimes at short notice and you will definitely put the hours in with the office being open for walk ins every day and usually with at least one late opening week. These things are all true if you're TG1,2,3,4,5,6, etc and it is a lot more than just an admin job which is what attracts people from all trades. Just because people wear blue all day doesn't mean that their job entails nothing but sipping coffee which seems to be what your angling at.

AFCOs are a bit like Marmite. You either love it or loathe it. On the upside, you are guaranteed to meet at least one headbanger a week.

Agree with the 'marmite' comment. I loved it at first, but after 3 years of it I can't wait to get out. Shouldn't affect your career by being in the job, but it is screened which means no OOA report to add ammo to your SJAR.
