Google "Handbrake" pet, a sgt working here keeps stacks of MP4's to watch on his PSP when he's in theatre. It can convert to iPod, iPhone using default settings or you can set your own output, i.e .avi.mpg etc and native resolution. I think the average phone res is 320x240.

If you want to just take ripped DVD's in folders use DVDfab decrypter (DVD Shrink's replacement) and select movie only.

Don't forget to download "K-lite mega codec pack" as well, it has all the latest codecs to help Handbrake with the coversions and it has media player classic for play back. :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Tried both DVD Shrink and Handbrake, neither ripped anything after crashing during the process.... :pDT_Xtremez_35:

could be a codec issue. Did you install k-lite codec pack as suggested? (that usually does the trick).

DVDfab

DVDfab

You can't beat DVDfab, you have to pay but it's worth it.

DVD shrink is no longer updated so probably won't work on the lastest DVDs.

Of course you should only do this to back up your own DVDs any other use is naughty.

Try the search facility on here as this topic crops up every now and then.

Good advice above mate, the DVD library is massive in the FI, it'll take you 8 months to back it all up!!!!!

This is what I normally use but just got an old TV series off of ebay and went to convert them to avi and DVDfab wouldn't do them !

Also have Pavtube Blu-Ray ripper (for blu-rays to hdd) and this is now converting the old TV series......

Both are paid for but I find good and easy.

Crack on...............:pDT_Xtremez_09:

As was mentioned above VLC plays almost anything from your standard AVI or MPEG files to a full blown ISO image. A good ripping programing to use is slysofts anyDVD HD which the latest version seems to be able to cope with anything, after that any version of a dvd shrinking software can be used to strip out all the unwanted content leaving only the film behind. Useful if your limited on space.

Hope that helps
