Assessment time again.....

It's SAC assessment time again and i've just been given mine. I've worked my rocks off the last 12 months jumping through hoops for the management proving myself, to be given an assessment that reads well in the narrative except for a nearly ready for promotion. Potential just goes on about how i'm nearly ready for promotion and i've been given a B grading with a developing for promotion to corporal. I feel cheated and shat on. Does anyone know exactly how I could redress this? don't really want to fill in the subject box, (it's not called the suicide box for nothing is it?) and will it actually get me anywhere by filling it in anyway? don't think it will be read by a promotion board as i've not been recommended for promotion? I presume i now have to wait another 3 years to even get looked at for promotion again? can anyone shed some light on the situation please? is my career over now because it feels like it (by the way i've have been recommended for more than the last 3 years).

Come to think of it, I havent had a 6 monthly since I started my latest post, nearly 2 years ago...

Not that it really matters now like, 8 months left in the job! :pDT_Xtremez_30:

I can't find a reference as the JSP isn't online but it's JSP 757 you want. A 6 monthly assesment is mandatory for everyone regardless of performance. You should have been told how to acheive then (not now!) and you now have grounds to take it back and tell them that.

Thanks for that, didn't know 6 monthers were mandatory now. Still not sure if it will get me anywhere though.

That's all down to you really. You say you've recieved higher previously, if this is genuinely a dip in either performance or promotion recommendation then they should have picked up on it earlier in the period and guided you on to the straight and narrow as to what they are looking for. From the end of your first post, you seem quite disheartened at the fact they've taken a dive, talk to your RO and see what can be done.

Could be a new 1st RO Mono, with higher standards than the previous...

I've spoke to the 1st RO already, pretty much straight away. he thinks its a good assessment and i'm sorry but quite clearly don't agree. He's not prepared to change the assessment in any way so I went straight to the 2nd RO. He said `not seen your assessment, if you don't like it fill the subject box in and i'll comment on it` hence this thread.

Before you go off on one you have already mentioned that the performance narrative was good which reflects what you have done over the year.
But you feel let down because you got a B in your OPG, as in "performing to the standard required in ALL respects" and "developing" for promotion recommendation.
Has your perfomance over the year not only reflected that you can do your job well, but that you have the extra bit about you that means you can hold a more responsible rank. Have you done things that put you head and shoulders above your colleagues, and have shown that you can lead when required?

If you really look hard at it, is it a fair assesment or not? Do you trust your SNCO to have made a proper assessment of your potential? Do you think that you would, in all honesty, be able to hold the rank of Cpl immediately?

I think youre probably right and even if I fill the subject box in I think that willonly be read by the 2nd RO.

It is generally accepted that ROs will talk about their subjects during the assessment process, so he may have an idea of what was going in but not actually read what has been put down.
This is to hopefully stop there being a conflict between what is written by everyone which is definitely not in anyone's favour.

If you do comment in the box, make sure you stick to factual statements only, simply disagreeing will not look good.

It's the 'Developing' that is the stinger, can I ask how much seniority you hold?

Thanks for your post and I can understand your point rOjaws but i'll answer that as a yes. If i'm to be truthfully honest half the time its me advising the corporals due to experience. O.k give me my tapes now this second and I probably wouldn't be as good as an established 2 or 3 year corporal but I think that comes with time. I'm sure though I could do a damn better job than a number of corporals i've met in my career.
