BMW v VW head on

All I can say is modern cars are incredible. My lad met a BMW estate head on with a combined speed estimated at over 100MPH this morning. Both cars obviously written off my lads 4 year old Golf was literally smashed off the road and the 2 year old BMW estate completely lost it's front end.

Apparently the beamer driver lost it on ice and finished up on the wrong side of the road. The driver was taken to hospital with suspected head and neck injuries but discharged himself before the police came to talkto him. My lad has nothing more than a badly bruised ankle thank god and should be home tonight.

Firemen at the scene told me 5 or 6 years ago we would be arranging funerals, modern cars are magicDT_Xtremez_30:

The police have confirmed all his details and are taking an interest in his driving apparently. They have confirmed he was at fault, it was a company car so insurance wise all appears in order.

I remember going to Canada on holiday and buying a car in Canada was an arms race. You had to buy a bigger pick up truck than anyone else, because if you owned a Fiat Cinquecento and crashed head on into a Dodge Ram pick up truck, it would be a one way argument. It would be like hitting the planet Saturn with a pebble.

Good to hear everyone came out safe enough considering the impact.

About 13 years ago I witnessed about 200m in front of me, a high speed impact between a Micra and a Volvo Estate. Absolute carnage and no-one survived so it just shows how far the tech has come along.

Well he is home, a few bruises, a black eye believed to be from something loose on the dash board, sore shoulder and a bruised ankle. Obviously he is aching somewhat but in one piece.

I was amazed but his door was only just a bit deformed and both the drivers and front passenger's compartments were still intact. The same with the Beamer. All the airbags obviously had fired.

I am delighted for you and your Son. With regard to my previous career in the Fire Service I truly wish more people had been as lucky. Every time I drive along a road and see flowers lying at the side of the road it cuts me to the bone knowing what some poor family has gone through...

I must admit when I replaced both my cars last year I checked out the NCAP rating for passengers, most average family cars these days scrape a minimum of 4 stars and mostly hit 5 stars.

Well done for your lad, hope the cheque from the no win no fee people make up for the pain.

Really glad your lad is OK Gem, that looks like a decent biff.
Fortunately it was head on so the engine block, crumple zones, seat belts, air bags and pre-tensioners did their job well. Modern cars are really engineered well
I bet he's sore now though? Side impacts are much tougher for the body to cope with and the outcome isn't always so favourable.

Great news that your boys fine though.
