Me turning off my lights, putting my cardboard in a special green bin and using my kettle a little less won't make a massive difference seeing as China builds a coal fired power station every week and the United States consumes 50% of the worlds energy.

Green taxes are just a disgusting invention to lever even more cash out of our wallets.

And this whole thing is used as an excuse for politicians and councils to hide behind when they are caught red handed. They just say "Sorry, we cannot predict how climate change will affect us so easily. We built stuff on flood plains but we'll not tell anyone that, we'll just say it's because of climate change when they get flooded, or can't get about because of lack of road prep, or the fact we're closing reservoirs regularly. etc etc etc" ****s DT_Xtremez_32:

You're probably correct that no-one knows 100% either way, but for me theres 2 options.

Do something -if we're wrong we pay more tax.
Do nothing-if we're wrong the world as we know it ends.

Im not having a go, (because most humans look after number 1), but not doing anything is short term thnking of the highest order. In 200/100 years, maybe even in your lifetime, will people look at 2010 and say "its a shame the earth is dying, but at least people didn't have to pay a bit more tax back then, PHEW!". Come on people, get some perspective.

Perhaps this is just a bit too philosophical, apologies if so, but perhaps it was just meant to be by dint of nature and evolution. Nature evolved humans with intelligence on planet earth and provided them with the raw materials to turn into machines and fuel dug/drilled out of the ground to power them with. If the process of progress and development results in us screwing the planet over through global warming perhaps we're fcuked anyway. Perhaps if we manage to arrest AGW (if its actually happening) then nature will simply find another way to rid the earth of the human parasites that infect it. Maybe a cure for cancer will turn out to be a plague that wipes us out, 'I Am Legend' style.

Possibly becasue the planet has effectively been cooling down for the last 10 years (and that's proper science carried out by real scientists not ones with imaginary degrees who used to be railway engineers!). There's an interesting little book out by a research journalist called Ian Wishart entitled 'Aircon'. The title says it all! The icecaps aren't melting, the polar bear community has never been better and the seas ain't going to rise meters high. I've seen more than enough pictures of the melting glaciers in the Alps and the Andes and also the thinning ice in the Arctic to be convinced that something is happening. In some cases the glaciers are a mere fraction of what they were 30-40 years ago. If they haven't melted then it's massive case of sublimation.

Mustang, just a wee point. The glaciers have actually been melting for the last 1000 years ever since the Medieval warming Period. The icecaps aren't melting all over, in fact in some areas they have grown massively and any realtime melting isn't caused by this so called 'global warming' but by the effects of El Nino which is an entirely natural process. Polar bears dying off? My arse! The polar bear population has grown from 5000 in 1970 to over 25,000. The 4 wee dead ones constantly photgraphed were caught in a freak storm but that hasn't stopped the idiot media constantly touting the images as reality. Authorities in Canada are actually considering a polar bear cull this year to knock the numbers down. One last detail, you'll have noticed that the media tend to refer to this alleged catastrophe as 'climate change' these days. The reason? Since real scientists have proven that the Earth has actually been cooling down for the last 10 years, global warming doesn't really sound correct does it! This isn't a rant, I'm just horrified at the sheer level of stupidity that our government is showing in believing some of the crap out there and it's you and me that are going to be forced to pay for it. Don't believe me? Read Christopher North's 'Global Warming - The Real Disaster' or Ian Wishart's 'Air Con'. Both extremely well researched books that tell the truth and for people like Al Gore. very inconveniently. Now for a nice lie down!
