Plus, its not something you ever do as part of a team game, especially where you are the leader and media front for the squad. Thats the main issue, he is the person who stands there and answers all the questions the media throw at him about the squad. There wont be questions about the matches, or any footage of the match. It will be who did you shag this time etc etc.

Not what we need given how Capello has been trying to build team spirit, having him as captain will damage that trust and spirit within the camp. Hes already shown he cant be trusted outside of the squad, so can you trust him in it?

Agreed, wasnt a certain England Rugby Captain removed because of his private life.

Not sure on the captaincy issue but the story is that the affair actually happened when Bridge was still with his girlfiend. They were struggling to deal with a long-distance relationship so long term friend Terry was there as a 'shoulder to cry on'.

Bridge has a 4 year old with his ex-girlfriend, was very close friends with Terry and probably trusted him.

Terry has twins with his wife and won 'dad of the year' in 2008. Terry has been in the papers often for the wrong reasons with the Chelsea training ground tour scandal, other allegations of cheating etc.

There are plenty of footallers with skeletons in thier closet and from a purely football point of view I would want him as captain. However this whole thing stinks and is the last thing England need before a World Cup.

Part of me thinks the captain should be someone the whole squad looks up to as a person and as a player. Still unsure over what I think should happen however I am confident we finally have a coach we can trust to make the right decision. They meet later this week and the outcome will interesting.

Similar has happened before to upset world cup plans. Mexico 1970 England skipper accused of stealing a necklace from a Bogota jewellers. Story was a media frenzy and a load of cobblers but we didn't win it that time either, Brazil played quite well which didn't help.

There is enough of a media frenzy surrounding England in the World Cup without adding fuel to the fire, the Red tops esp. the Scum will have a field day with their 'duble entendre' headlines. The focus needs to be the performances on the pitch and not the bedroom

We all cheat, lie and bend/break the rules when we can justify it to ourselves, and the media is the worst culprit of all for deceit and underhand tricks when it comes to getting a story so they are in the weakest position of all when it comes to moralising through their editors opinion pages.

Perhaps the REAL fans should stop buying papers or watching sporting news until they find another victim. But no, Britains insatiable need to know who's fcuking who will win out over REAL news every time. They're not news papers, they're all cheap gossip rags that print news when they have no lives to ruin. We must simply stop feeding the fire or quit complainig about it !

The most sensible idea I have heard is to ask the team if THEY will play with Terry. If they refuse to play with him everything else is just words.

Absolutely right. In the build up to the 1990 world cup when England had a team that was capable of going all the way, the papers found out about an alleged affair involving Bobby Robson. They sunk their teeth into him like a dog with a bone, but then began to laud him as England progressed to within a penalty kick of the final.
