Car Insurance Premiums Racing Ahead

Car insurance premiums have raced ahead during the past 12 months.

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Bu..._Months,_Consumer_Intelligence_Research_Finds

The average annual premium is now £564.19 - almost 20% more than it was this time last year, according to market research firm Consumer Intelligence.
Those who have endured the biggest rise are 17 to 24-year-olds, with the average cost going up nearly 25% to £1,489.

Drivers aged 65 and over have seen premiums increase the least - rising around 15% to £423 on average.
Those paying the least for annual insurance are 55-64 year olds who are now forking out an average of just under £376.

....................So, with six points on my license, (2 lost arguements with speed camera's) I am paying £480, fully comp inc AA cover, which is an increase of £200 in the last year, but is mostly put down to my own fault.

How much has your premium increased recently?

Well matey, due to the size of the Lloyd fleet of vehicles, I haven't a clue. All I know is for the first time in years, my licence is clean as far as the Bill are concerned, 4 months before I can send of my tatty bog roll of a paper licence to get a blank convictions copy, yet the insurance will still cane me for another year.

3 years for the Bill.
4 years visible on licence.
5 years for insurance.

Never claimed for me, never had a claim against me. Fcucking Pirates aren't all off the coast of Somalia

I'm the same. Full licence for 40 years now. HGV1 + adv test. No claims either way. 65% no claims. It's literally highway robbery.

My ex-insurance company tried to put my premium up from £550 to £1175 and claimed it was because i had 3 points...... and i thought i paid the fine to the sheriffs not the insurance company's.
A quick internet search got 15 quotes under £500 - 37 years old, 9+ years protected no claims. Ended up paying £600 through M&S for the extra cover.

Chuffing Insurance

Chuffing Insurance

I found the additional requirement for 'Business Use' stung me this year and all because JPA requires it! I can't claim this back on JPA but I was very tempted to say ram it to using my car to travel to different Units, for courses etc, but don't want to be stuck on camp or have to travel by train at weekends!

I changed from an MG (defunct maker and known boy racer mobile- shorteage of spares etc etc) to a Focus Oil burner (worlds biggest or 2nd biggest manuf) 2nd most popular car in UK and it went up £200!!!
Would my 19 years NCB - "oh no Sir that will be 9 years"!!!

It winds me up every year but even more so when Churchill, Direct Line and I think e-sure, & sheilas wheels are owned by you and me as part of the Royal Bank of Chuffing Scotland, and spend a fortune on TV adverts- cut my premium and you wont need to advertise!!!

Rant over - thanks

My insurance rates have basically changed zilt since I got my licence when I was 17. 20 now, and because of the increase in rates I'd have to pay the same rates as if I was a new starter at 17. That'll be £3,000 sir to insure a little city car in Oldhamabad. Thank you very much. (no surprise I only can use my old Land Rover on classic insurance of £550 - still pricey compared to other regions :pDT_Xtremez_09: )

I've found it pays to shop around and not accept the first quote they give you.

As a result I now pay £399 fully comp for a 200bhp sports car with business use too. Result! They must think I'm sensible or something :pDT_Xtremez_35:

Christ guys - where do you get your insurance from?? £290 for a D5 Volvo V70! and about £190 for a fiesta! Full no claims Fully comp on both! give Frizzel a call - the CSMA insurance company! (Free ad Frizzell- I want another cut this year!) I get a reminder a month before renewal - then phone them up and ask to re-quote - it usually comes in about £10 less!

I saved £400 pounds on my car insurance this year. I wrote a car off in August and then I bought a Type R in November, Elgin’s very own H & R Insurance Services wanted £650 fully comp all because I’d lost my Protected No Claims though still had my full No Claims Bonus. The lady in there told me to try on line as they couldn’t match their prices. I went to Swiftcover and fully comp for £250 which included hire car, windscreen etc. Result.

Few tips from a CCC (Call Center cu.._

Few tips from a CCC (Call Center cu.._

I used to work for an Car Insurance company not so long ago and so I know how immoral they are.

A lot of companies don't charge extra for your first set of points so long as they aren't careless/ dangerous driving. Drinking etc. etc.

One of the biggest rating factors is the postcode that it's kept at. This doesn't necessarily mean if you live in a crime hot spot then your insurance is going to be sky high. It's based around how many claims are made around that area and the price of the claims amongst other things. So you can live in the arrse end of no where but if you have a few accidents around that area you could see the premium creeping up.

Keep your marital status up to date. If you are married tell them, that brings insurance down a fair bit, even better is to put your wife/ husband on the policy as long as they are reasonably claim/ points free it should bring it down a decent amount.

Be realistic on your mileage estimate. If you're doing 8000 miles a year, tell them. It's all well and good putting 12000 on just in case, but as with all things insurance you will pay extra.

At renewal, shop around. Spend a day doing it. Boring as hell but you can save money.

For the first year you are with an insurance company they make very little, if any money from you (low price to attract you as a new customer, the call centre wallah they have to pay, the paper work, updating databases and all that fun stuff) It is keeping you through any subsequent renewals where they will make the money from you.

Will try to think of more stuff later on. But be honest with them. If you lie and have an accident it could put you in the poo as they can and most probably will refuse to pay out. Leaving you with repair bills for both you and the third parties costs.

Oo. just to boast £343 1.4 2 years no claims and 21 years old. Hate me if you will :D

CSMA have been great for me including for business use why not give them a go. BTW more than quoted me £1500 Frizzel quoted £500. Now Mores than quoting me £7-800 Frizzel £220.

Good luck
