If you are at a non-DII unit how do you search for the email address of somebody who is?

I've tried control-King people, but at the two DII units they are at, I can't find the email addresses?

As far as i am aware you can't email to someone on DII if you are not on the system yourself. So it might be a pointless exercise.

Really? Best I delete all the emails I get/send to DII users.

Downsizer, make sure you have EMSED added to your directories in MS Outlook.

Failing that, send a memo.:pDT_Xtremez_42:

The way I do it is to use EMSED or dDirectory. Most station homepages have a link to one or the other under contacts, but Northolt actually has both.

Easiest way is to open them up and save the links to your favourites in Explorer, that way you can open them anytime you want.

From Outlook, select Tools -> Email Accounts.

Select Add a new directory or address book, and click Next

Select Additional Address Books, and click Next

Select MasterKeyPlus and click Next

In the resulting window click OK. Hit OK to acknowledge the message about restarting Outlook.

Exit from, and then restart Outlook.

Can't be done from our network. Tried all sorts with no luck!

MasterkeyPlus is not a listed option...

I have already gone through tools > options> other > advanced> add in manager and unchecked masterkeyplus checknames.

Is that the same? because if so I still can't get the DII email addresses...

You need someone on DII to email you. Then you reply to it. Non DII camps don't have the look up (ctrl K). Once you've opened an email from DII you can add them to your contacts.

I am at secret Typhoon base in lincs (we are on Ash Forest which I am lead to believe is somewhere between the old system and DII) and I found (though the ctrl k feature) and successfully e-mailed someone at secret Tri-star Oxfordshire base who informs me that they are on DII. I dont know what my settings are and I've finished work for the day... but it can be done. Ring 188 I'm sure they'll help!

Failing all of the above, find the dDirectory on your Unit intranet page (usually under the contacts tab) and search for them via that. You may only get their "personal" address but it all goes to the same mail inbox. They are along the lines of george.bush666@mod.uk

Edited to say: Dont forget to start subject with "release-authorised:".

Ctrl K will work on systems other than DII.

If the users you are trying to contact have only recently migrated to DII then you may not find them in the GAL.

you can use the personal email address as mentioned above, this can be checked using the PUID databade which will give you the name and 3 numbers of every person in the MoD.

Communications, the corner stone of any organisation...we can’t even e-mail each other without a drama or wasting time looking for addresses that are not there because you are on a different system. Mick Mouse springs to mind.

When looking up people on the GAL some have a globe next to there name and some time.

I can remember which round round it but it means they are either on the same network or a different one.

That is the sneaky people who seem to be going out of their way to disrupt DII cos they never got the contract cos they have been responsible for the old heap of a system, meanwhile slowly getting thier fingers in all the pies ready to save the day if DII falters (for a fee of course!)

DII wont falter now... with Inc 3 ready to roll it will be hitting all the RAF site this year, along with lots of other smaller sites.
