Makes sense to me. Currently a lot of blokes are dyeing their dessies with a green tinge, so the new colour scheme makes preferct sense.

makes sense and will save money in the long run, with all other cuts at the moment why not try to roll it out across the 3 services and make it common place working dress? I find combats are far more comfortable to work in.

This was bein trialled in my Brothers unit last year. It's apparently designed to do away with 'greens' and 'deserts'. I think he called it 'multi-cam' or something similar.

Although its going to save money, this is one change that makes a lot of sense.

I can't see the powers that be doing that to be honest. After the big stink the RAF made with us loosing our identity in the public eye I can't see them changing back to greens as normal working dress

We'll get it after the Army, and the Air Cadets, and The Dulwich Boy Scouts, and the Women's Auxiliary Ballon Corps. I won't hold my breath for being issued it for my OOA at the end of next year.

It's a good idea, but the pattern does look a little colonial in the video, hopefully it will cut a better dash in real life.

Blues are a lot cheaper than cs95. Shoes are cheaper than boots etc etc.

hmm, you have to wonder how many design compromises have been made in order to make this pattern work for all environments. Thought the CS95 was better against the bush in the BBC report.

They said Dessies are still better in a desert environment, and CS95 is designed for woodland, so yes this is going to be a compromise, hopefully this will be out in time to make a difference? Hopefully we can keep our CS95 and dessies for when the terrain meets the need?

doesn't look too different to a faded set i have to be honest?

It's based on multi-cam what SF use.

Although quite how much good it will be for you clerk/stacker/driver/mover milling around BAS/KAF I don't know.

I wouldn't expect it to arrive in the RAF anytime soon.

One of the things that came out of Corporate was the lack of combats issued to the RAF. I remember giving some Rock Sgt ****e at St Eval in 82 over the way they dressed us in blue and expected us to dig in and hide in the fields, we had to put our Mk1 NBC on just to blend. It wasn't until '84 that DPM became standard issue. Remember the first deployments to Gulf 1 where everybody turned up in the Saudi desert wearing tropical green, frankly KDs made better sense. On my deployments to the arctic I had to sign the white stuff out the week before and back in the day after.
The RAF has a history of being badly kitted out for instant worldwide deployment. I guess something less rigid than european temperate DPM makes sense as long as it's backed up with a stock of the right kit to be made available soonest.

I bet Clothing Stores won't take back the greens, will have to build an annex to the house soon for all the fcuking uniform(s).:pDT_Xtremez_19:

so what's cheaper? issuing blues AND greens, 2 pairs of shoes AND boots?

or just one set of uniform?

argument would be valid if we weren't already issued greens/combat uniform at all, but not the case.

I agree, I remember arriving at Marham in 86 and being put on Gate Guard having been issued with a DPM Jacket & Puttees - no DPM trousers etc so had to wear blues, when a visiting RAF Regt Wing Commander came thru the gate, I got a mega bollocking for mixed dress. Later the FS Discip in the Guard Room tells me I am to be fizzed for said 'offence'.

When the charge was read, I was asked if I had anything to say - 'Stores havent got the kit and therefore did not issue me a complete set of DPM, hence me being in mixed dress' says I.

I was 'awarded' 7 days jankers for the offense, which was then quashed by the intervention of a certain SWO, as being total bollox. 'Thanks Bernie - RIP Sir!'

In thinking about this, I remember that despite having no money for the right kit, their airships did find the money for the following needless kit:

Sausage Kit Bag - never used it, til it went to the tip full of cr@p on demob
Vee neck Jumpers - useless when on the line and freezing cold
Foam Mattress Roll - again never used, but wife did use it for aerobics
That non-Goretex DPM waterproof stuff - made you sweat and freeze

The list goes on I'm sure........

Am I seeing a hidden meaning here? Did not "Pa Broon" hint that we would be out of Afghanistan within 5 years? yet they are now changing the uniform with long term view in mind?

But your greens should only be worn now and again and therefore last years unlike your blues which you should be wearing daily.
I know a lot of you out there want to wear greens all the time but when you joined up you knew we wear blue, why do we always get the constant bitching about wanting to wear green? Be proud of your Service and the uniform you have the honour of wearing.

Cheapest is wear greens in the field, blues on unit. When greens wear out quicker because people are wearing them on unit the bill is higher than if they had worn out an item of blues. No one needs to wear greens on unit as said before it's an expensive option.
