Happy with sleet, just want it to be definatly snow that sticks, although always thought sleet was softer hail?
DT_Xtremez_42:
Officially, there's 100 different types of 'official' weather (including more than 30 different types of rain/drizzle and showers!) reported at airfields and other manned weather offices, which includes what sort of weather, how heavy the rain/snow is, how thick the fog is, how long it's lasted for and whether or not there's a thunderstorm.
Sleet doesn't officially appear on this list but there are two catagories of "Rain or drizzle and snow" ("slight", or "moderate or heavy").
Hail can be "snow pellets or small hail" or "hail" with hail being harder and bigger, usually lasting longer, and both can be "with or without rain or rain and snow mixed."
If this sounds excessive, it's partly for aviation safety and partly because we're a particular kind of geek over at the Met Office

There's a surprising amount of stations around the UK that have reported all 100 types of weather, including sandstorms, funnel clouds (tornado) and diamond dust. Oh yes, we
live for those days.
