The part I don't believe is this...

However, a growing number of people have been leaving the UK permanently. About 427,000 people emigrated last year, up from 341,000 in 2007.
BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw said most of this rise was because of non-UK citizens returning home.

I know quite a few people who have left UK and they were UK citizens.
Others may be leaving, but after going through the hassle of moving to UK are you really just going to up sticks and go home?

I would say a mojority of those leaving are UK citizens fed up with it all.

As I understand from a couple of Polish blokes I know, a number of Poles, Slovakians etc have returned home due to the economic turndown and the fact that the debts etc have been paid. Quite how the Government can put numbers to this is a mystery as EC citizens have free passage and outgoings haven't been monitored in years. However I know many UK citizens who have emigrated, mostly to to sunnier climes, and I reckon these will make up the majority leaving. Electioneering maybe?

I live on a small Greek Island (6 miles long) with a population of around 4000. I estimate that 100 brits live here at the moment and that is increasing by roughly 2-3 a month.

You'd be amazed at how many POM's are living out at this neck of the woods.

Longlook has a lot to answer for. :pDT_Xtremez_30: I know a few who having done longlook decided your location was where they wanted to be so PVR'd and moved ASAP.

I've been to Skiathos, very nice it was too. I wonder if the locals call you "bloody immigrants!"

I used to live in Githeon in the Peleponese, locals were great, never any problems with them. I moved to the states 20 years ago this coming Christmas, never returned to the U.K., and won't unless they deport me.
