Finally completed my NVQ and am wondering if anyone has put in an AIP recently? Just wondering how long it normally takes from me dropping the form off into PSF and it being actioned on jpa? I'm going to wait until i move onto the higher payband as i will jump to level 5 an therefore level 6 when i put it in.

I did one end of last year. Took my PSF around about a month to get it sorted out, but took a little longer to get the back pay.

The day you take it to PSF will be the day you jump up a level, it will take PSF a while to get it onto JPA and then it will take JPA a while to get your pay right, but you will get back pay from the day you took it to your lovely adminers.

You get the back dating from the date that is on the certificate, ie the day you actually gained the qualificaion. The date you take it to the adminers has nothing to do with what money you get.

hmmm... I think we're going to have to check this one out properly.

[hypothetical situation] What if I completed my NVQ and got it signed off in 2002 (which I did) but only decided to put in my AIP this week?

You know damn right they won't back pay me my lost earnings since 2002.

It's the date that they stamp your application for the AIP, as the AIP is optional not obligatory, it's not like getting promoted. Remember YOU'RE requesting to jump up a pay level, you could have had the NVQ for years before deciding it was the right time to jump up.

What if you're already on level 8 SAC pay, you won't want to put your 2nd AIP in until after you get promoted, but you've already got your qualification.

I'm not calling you a liar rugby_rules, I'm just saying you may have this mixed up with something else, q-ops for techies possibly? I don't know.

They will backdate it from the day you hand it in, up to a maximum of 6 months.

That is what happened with mine.

Anyone know what the Paperwork you put in for this bad boy is now? I done one in 2003 and seem to remember there was a specific form for it. Is it a Gen App now that JPA has com into play since them good old days?

How long had you been in before eligible for an AIP? Are you an ab-initio?

Asking as I went up to 5 higher in April, now have to wait until next April rather than September (which was my increment date), to go up to level 6.

I don't move over to higher until December. I didn't think the AIP changed your increment date as it is a one off level jump. Reading my initial post back what I meant to say was i'm going to wait until i'm transfered onto the higher payband and therefore when I put my AIP in i'll be moved up to level 6.

I'm in the same boat as you, got made SAC(T) 1st April, but I was due to go up a level in July anyway, got promoted though on 6 July so a jump from level 9 Low pay SAC, to level 3 High pay Cpl in the space of 3 months.... I'm not moaning :)

I wan't to put in my 2nd career AIP now I've been promoted, but I haven't got a clue what they will accept for it. I've asked PSF who tell me it's a "trade" issue, and when I called cosford they told me it was a HR issue... aarrrrgghhhhh!!!

Correct, it doesn't change your increment date, the move of all the ex TG11 SAC's to SAC(T) did change the increment date because it's technically a promotion and your increment due date is 1 year from your date of promotion.

You move to higher (SAC(T))in December right, so your increment due date will be December next year. Whenever you put in your AIP you'll jump to level 6 immediately (getting back pay to when PSF stamped your application) instead of having to wait till next December, then when next December does arrive you'll go to 7. Capiche?

If you look in the JSP754 it lists all the acceptable trade AIPs...though it might not be the JSP it could be the GAI that the JSP links to...

I'm pretty sure its GAI 1058...

Anyway one of those pubs lists, by trade, acceptable quals..

Techie tubby, are you putting in your second aip? Or are you not an ab initio? I ask as I was on one of the first 4000 courses and am on level 5 for the best part of another year (until next April).

Chris, are you an ab inito? Congrats on the promotion!

No i'm planning on putting in my first AIP. If you put an AIP in using your NVQ you will be put up to level 6 immediately....well as long as it takes for PSF to action the paperwork.

So what you are saying is that an AIP used with a NVQ boosts you to lvl 6 regardless of your current level?

Are you an ab-initio? I have used an AIP, however am on lvl 5 until next April so am trying to work out how you are going to be on lvl 6 come December.

Cheers :)

No, an AIP only moves you up one level on your current pay spine. What i'm saying i did was I waited until I moved onto the higher pay band then the day after it was confirmed on JPA i put in an application to use an AIP which moved me up to level 6 from level 5 as I was put straight onto level 5 with the switch over. The AIP doesn't affect your increment date, you can put it in any time. Regardless of how long your on level 5 for you can put it in now if you wanted to.

Hey B, ya cant have your cake and eat it mate, expect to have to wait a year to go up another level as when you went to level 5 should reset your increment clock for April 2010, you young uns these days want it all, tut.................lol
