Just spoke to Admin who are on a well known training base on the subject of renewing my passport at the 10 year point. Only to be told that it can only be renewed at my expence. The reason, . . . I am not due to go on detachment at this time (just come back from one actually). . . . .Anyone got similar feedback ?

Never had a problem renewing mine, which was only a couple of months ago.
Whats to say that you wont get stung with a short notice OOA, after all surely just coming back from one would mean all Q's etc are current as are Det related things, such as IRT etc.
You do pay for it yourself up front and then claim back through JPA anyway, so i'd just stick a claim in for it.
After all it is a requirement to have a current 10 year passport

2009DIN01-033 states that passports at public expense will only be provided for those who are to be posted or detached overseas, or those already serving overseas.
Notwithstanding that, I have been on units where the stn cdr has decreed that the unit will pay for passports for all Service personnel, as everyone can be expected to deploy at short notice.
I wouldn't just put in a claim on JPA as you could leave yourself wide open to admin, if not disciplinary, action.

Just buy yourself a passport and refuse to use it for official travel. Simples.

Tell them you don't need to do CCS because you are not on guard and can't go overseas cos you don't have a passport?

I have seen somewhere that you don't claim it back off JPA now but have to get it paid for by accounts. depend where you are I suppose.

Enjoy a holiday in the UK and support our tourist trade.

On a similar thread, can you get your money back for renewing a driving licence?

To follow up what Mightierthan said, passports are generally only issued at public expense to those serving on Front Line Deployable Sqns or those who have been notified for an OOA and who do not hold one.

As the OP has just come back from an OOA and is at a Trg Establishment, there is little chance of them being pinged for another, or even an aircraft recovery. If you are, you would be issued with another one at public expense. Until that time, you do not need one for duty, and would therefore be liable for the full cost yourself.

...So... don't buy one yourself and, as said before, go native for a while!
It doesnt hurt to spend some time in UK. Long white sandy beaches and blue-green seas are also available in UK.
