Could understand if the boilers are broken down for the heating!! What ever happened to character building? Used to walk 2 miles to secondary school rain, snow or shine. It beat the bullying on the buses!!

Well it did happen when I was a kid! I remember having quite a few snow days and being sent home half way through the day because of snow!

We walked quite a way to school as well, but it tends to be the teachers who live further away from schools these day, when we were at school most teachers lived in the same town its just not the case anymore!

I understand schools being closed can be blo0dy annoying and an inconvenience but they don't decide to shut them for no reason!

Yes mate, but the teachers won't walk, and don't like getting cold.

Grumpy, what a load of b0llox!!

You'd walk 20 or 30 miles to work would you.........I don't think so!!!!

You can't blame the teachers for the fact that local highways agencies can't get their act together when we get a few inches of snow and keep the roads clear!

It's the same every year when there's a bit of snow!!

One of my neighbours just came back home, can't get to work. Yes, he's a teacher. Deputy head at that.

Tesco are open and fully staffed. How do they do that!
Oh yes. If you don't turn in, you don't get paid.

Well this morning there was a small cohort of us '25-mile plus' teachers standing outside a 'closed' school. On the way in I heard the local radio station banging on about "... the A*** is bad ...". "No it's not! I'm on it and there's about 3 snow flakes, everyone is driving sensibly so STFU!!" Oh well, another day lost to my impending exam group.

I take my hat off to you, if only there were a few more like you. I wonder how many employees not just teachers even tried getting in this morning and how many turned on the wireless and thought, feck this, back to bed for me?
Mrs E falls into the, dont go in dont get paid brigade!

damned if you do and damned if you don't. Police and highway authorities tell people to stay at hom unless their journey is essential. Is school, and half the jobs we travel to classed as essential?

I never got the bus or a lift to school,Shanks's pony for me!
A few years ago it took me over 2 hours to go 3 miles between N/Ards & Dundonald as an inch of snow crippled the country.
At Bruggen in,oh,1990,it took me well over 2 hours to go from Niedercrutchen & Elmpt when I dropped Smiffy off after we'd come off a weeks Duty Plumb!
He offered to let me stop over but like a prat,I declined! In hindsight tho.....

Well i have just got home having left for work at 6.05 this morning to walk to the station and then a train in to the metropolis and a walk at the other end taking 2 hours to get in to be stood down at 11 and another two hours to get home. It is still snowing here.

One bonus is that those of us who made it in will be given a full days credit.
