Looking at booking a hol in Vegas for Mrs Bitburger and me. have narrowed it down to one of four hotels:

New York New York
MGM Grand
Luxor
Bellagio

Any Goaters stayed at any of these, and if so which do you recommend?

Have not stayed at any of the above (It was always the Emerald Suites for us) but I have been in all of them and I always wanted to stay at the Luxor.....

Where-ever you stay I'm sure you'll have a great time.....(remember that ATOL booking)

Crack on...........................:pDT_Xtremez_09:

P.S. MGM, Luxor and NewYork Newyork are all at one end of the strip and the Bellagio is more Central strip....if that affects what you decide)

I take it you're going for the full Vegas experience if you want to stay in one of the big hotels? I've only been when the Queen was paying so we stayed in one of the many Marriotts' - they do a military discount that is well worth considering (probably valid for veterans too). You're only sleeping there, right?

To be honest, the hotels you've chosen are all much of a muchness.

MGM & NYNY are directly opposite each other, more or less in the centre of The Strip. Luxor is at the south end of the strip right next to McCarran airport. The main club in Luxor (LAX) is a known haunt of Pamela Anderson, Lindsay Lohan and others, but it's quite a walk from the real action.

Bellagio is a bit classier than the others (if there is any such thing in Vegas!) opposite Caesar's Palace (Cher's playing there now, if you're interested) and has the best restaurants in town (IMO) if you don't mind paying for it. If money was no object this would be my choice.

So whats wrong with the monorail ? I'm sure I got it from near the Luxor ?

I have stayed in them all apart from the Bellagio, I must say if you budget allows stay there, it is more central than the others and it seems a very classy resort. If you decide to save a little and spend more while there, NYNY would be my second option. I have been to Vegas 4 times in the last 4 years so if you need anymore info drop me a PM. A good website is.... http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php it basically tells it how it is!

Bellagio or the Luxor out the ones you have mentioned but the Mandalay Bay is an excellent hotel too. Mandalay Bay is next to the Luxor.

Down side of NY, MGM, Luxor and Mandalay Bay is the proximity to the airport.

Oh and the Venitian is good too

Last year we stayed in the Luxor, NYNY, Planet Holliwood, and Ceasers...

I thought the rooms in the Luxor were really beginning to get tatty, and NYNY were really small. We really liked PH and the £20 trick worked a treat for us, got a mint view of the Bellagio fountains...

I would also say that MGM, NYNY, and the Luxor are a bit off central strip...

For me it would be the Bellagio or PH..

This thread may be of help, if you are a skinflint like me..

They are all good, New York New York has an Irish bar in there but the pints are small. Monoroail is ok and Mandalay Bay is well worth a visit.

Fremont Street is worth a visit for souvenirs, some guy does some spray paint pics of landscapes, pretty good.

Stratosphere is a must one evening.

Indeed, if you want to get some credit in with the misses, book an evening meal here its a great experience, time it right and you will revolve around Vegas during the sunset. You will be in the good books all week!!!

It would have to be the Bellagio for me, right in the thick of it but "classier" than others. I could watch the fountain show all day, I expect the rooms overlooking the lake are a bit pricier though.

Been to the meadows on a number of occasions (never paid for by the Queen unfortunately) loved every trip, stayed at a number of hotels both on strip and off and to be honest don't think it matters that much, the thing is in the main strip hotels there is no let up it is 24/7 all the time whereas somewhere like the ORLEANS which is a block off the strip is a lot cheaper, bigger rooms, easier to get on the tables and quiet from about 7am (bedtime!) oh and free buses to the middle of the strip.
Out of the hotels you mentioned I’d go for the LUXOR it is quite cool and has some nice bars although the rooms can be small due to the shape of the hotel (has a moving pavement to the Excalibur then your on to the strip proper)
The bellagio is stunning and the water shows in the lake are stunning but it always feels a bit pompous and some of the staff and clientele look down their noses at anyone without a platinum card.
NYNY fun hotel but the roller coaster starts at 8am and can be heard in some of the rooms. Irish bar is good and there is a very nice but pricey steak house.
MGM Grand never stayed there but been in a couple of times and inside its big.. Can’t really remember much else about it apart from some strange jungle cafe it has with tigers in glass cages.

As for bonus points with Mrs Bitburger, well old sands here tied the not with Mrs Gigolo in Vegas and after the ceremony we took the guests to the Top Of The World Restaurant in the Stratosphere and had the wedding meal up there. Its great the views are amazing especially if you go late after noon so you get the strip in daytime and when all the lights go on, you also get to see downtown Vegas and Freemont st. Even if your scared of heights do it, the food is great, a bit pricey but well worth it. You phone up and book your table then arrive about 1/2 hour early to have a drink in the lounge bar and take in the views. (If you’re mad you can then go and do one of the rides on the roof!!!!!)

Where ever you go have fun, and stay on the cheap tables (drinks are still free whether you bet 50c or $100 per chip)

Stayed in the Venetian the year before last. Well worth the money and not tired or tatty.

OK, so the whole canal/gondola thing is a bit cheesy.... but FFS - it's Vegas!

Also... have to say that the Blue Man Group was awesome!

Stayed at MGM Grand courtesy of HM - not bad, full of kids at weekends though.

Luxor is too far to one end of the Strip so everything is a long walk!

New York New York is great to visit for the evening.

But my vote would be Bellagio - more upmarket and central.
