Soldiers' families should get more help with health-care and schooling and better accommodation, a commission set up by the Tories is set to recommend.

The first stone cast in the start of an election campaign perhaps? I've sat and read it through a few times, but to be honest - there's nothing new in there at all. Just seems to me to be yet another bandwagon the Tories have jumped on as its rumbled past.

If they get in - can you honestly see these changes being brought in? I can't. Every party is as bad as the next. There would be excuses about lack of money, another Defence Review (cuts).

We must remember here, the PM may lead the country, but its the Chancellor and the Treasury that run it by providing the funds.

True Fomz but at least the Tories don't have an inbuilt hatred of the Armed Forces that is inherent in New Labour (theya re all ex left wing labour at the end of the day) , no politician is trustworthy but at least they're (Cameron et al) making the right noises.

In March, when the commission was launched, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: "Nobody within military circles has said the military covenant is broken, including the Royal British Legion.

Many of the ideas from the commission are believed to be similar to those being considered by the government.

A couple of interesting statements from the article the first I did a bit of digging and it is quite difficult to disprove this statement officially although we all know what the military are feeling at the moment.

The second is won't this play into Cameroons hands by giving him another plagiarism charge to level at Gordon Broon. (Although that will probably involve name calling over the commons floor "Gordon is a copycat, Gordon is a copycat....."

I had surgery last Nov to tighten my stomach oesophegous. (not a gastric band before you lot titter!!!!) I was referred by the SMO to Peterborough (but only after I asked him!!). It took 20 days to get the initial appt to check the results previous, and then was seen within 40 after that for the Op. I had been up in Lossie before and invest had taken 3 yrs to that point and still no operation I'd been promised. Got down here and its sorted in 2 months. Only 3 weeks recovery and no down grading...perfect.
Peterborough Hospital trust gets payed by the Govt to see Mod patients within 28 days of referal and then even more if operated on (etc) before 42 days after that.
It would be interesting if other Trusts did something like that. I guess its because so many Mod units in this. That was a good experience of priority in the NHS:pDT_Xtremez_28:

It's quite a bold statement made by Cameron regarding priority medical care for forces personnel and their families.

What is actually meant by priority treatment?

As a war pensioner, I was supposed to be entitled to priority treatment which basically meant " get to the back of the queue behind these shiny new jobless immigrants"

If priority treatment means better access to health care for Armed Forces personnel full stop, then it's a step along the right path. As for the families, that's when the debate will become complicated. And war pensioners, well, get to the back for the time being.

But they are just as bad when making decisions over Armed Forces.

They sold off married quarters.
All military hospitals shut under options for change.
Ordered Merlin instead of MH53/Chinooks.
Rather large drinks bill for the smarmy Tory Defence Minister.
Supported War in Iraq but then denyied it when things got dicey.
First staged pay rise for Armed Forces.
Used troops as strike breakers.

Sorry but Tory boy is just making noises without any money to back things up.

funny how everyone is saying tories jumped on the band waggon
Back in 2005 when we had the chance to get rid of that TW@T with the cheshire cat grin the tories already had as part of their Labour bashing manifesto all the idea's that Labour and the latest bunch of tories are now touting so its nothing new.
its just that a lot of people didnt see it or in the case of those not involved with the military didnt give a toss
i just hope that the British public actually do vote Labour out this time instead of roaring about it like lions all the way up to the elections then squeeking like mice when it comes to the crunch
