Has anybody else spotted that the Forcast Manpower Distribution Level :S (how many people we should have in each trade) for the AMM's will be down to 60% come April 08. Looking at all the other trades it looks like the Air Farce is seriously undermanned in general. In trade groups 1 and 2 they dont even say how bad it is just where the manpower is going to be put into or pulled from:raf:

Are we heading for implosion?

Maybe because the picture is pretty grim!

I believe that you have answered your own question.

No, it's easily resolved. If a trade is at, say, 80% FMDL then all that needs to happen is for 20% of posts to be disestablished. Bing Bang Bosh - 100% manning. :pDT_Xtremez_42:

Whats the phrase I'm looking for here???

"Many a true word spoken in jest!"

For christs sake dont even joke about it, all we need is some tw@t in his ivory tower to read that and go "hang on a minute I think hes onto something there" and it becomes policy.

3yrs later

RAF 15 people left but we are at 100% manning

I noticed in the last CCB that AMMs were at 68% manning. I'm not suprised they are, what incentive is there? Do menial gash jobs, get paid lower pay band whilst other trades are on the higher pay band and maybe if your lucky in a few years go back to Cosford.

Shocking, I'm suprised anyone wants join as an Aircraft Techie now.

As an aside, I've recently found out all new SAC Armourers coming from Phase 2 training are now on the lower pay band until they are Q-OPS (same as AMMs).

Anyone want to run a pool on how long the RAF has left?

Something needs doing........soon. In my opinion, it won't be long before the RAF wont be able to function. I heard a rumour that 12 were of to some sunny hell hole and taking loads of manpower from all over Lossie because they're so undermanned. But then what sqn isn't undermanned at the moment?!

The reason (I am led to believe) the AMMs will go down to 60% is coz they're off on their FT courses and (hopefully) the corresponding light/heavy trades SACs will be up on their manning at the same point in time.

All tonk sqns are scheduled to have 115 engineering manpower by Apr this year - and we're all hurting. The trip somewhere hotter isn't scheduled to take place for a little while yet.

Is that gen? Are you telling me that AMMs are at 60% because some of them are going back to Tossford?

So in reality there are not recruitment problems, the figures just don't include manpower going back on FT courses?

Genuine question.

I do recall the FMDL levels being in Chf Clk's Bulletins for some time, and this prompted and earlier point on AMMs and the 60% value. At the time the answer given was that the remainder of places (some 40%) were being manned by the SAC(T) and this would remain for a few years. Best to ring MSDIT at Halton (95237) 7103 or 7118. Always best to get it from the horse's mouth.

Problem being when/if the walking chocks pass their FT course they don't return as AMMs but as tradesmen (heaven help us). So to that point I would have to say yes, recruitment is still pants for AMMs.

As for the lower pay band for AMMs, they still have the same responsibility for signing an aircraft as safe for flight. Thus lots of lives are at risk, more than if some slop jockey doesn't heat the beans to quite the right temperature of PC Plod forgets which way the barrier goes. Still I suppose these trades no longer have recruitment/retention issues do they?

Exacly FLT. How the hell can the RAF expect to recruit, and more importantly retain these guys when they aren't even deemed worth the higher pay band?
I guess in the RAF, people who work on aircraft and aircraft systems are no longer deemed useful by our lords and masters. Never mind, any half decent techie will do well outside I suppose. It's a crying shame, I thought Trenchard founded the RAF on flying and engineering?

Uh oh, all the ancillary trades won't like that...:pDT_Xtremez_42:

Surely, it'll have been realised from the word 'go' with AMM's, that at some point they return to training? As such, doesn't 60% still mean they are undermanned, as 100% would still include these numbers?:pDT_Xtremez_35:

All that training with no rewards to speak of, I wouldn't bother joining as a techie nowadays.

It all stinks to high heaven to be honest with you. If there is a definate hole in AMM manning, then the other current problems we are currently facing in the RAF will only get worse. From another thread. ACOS manning is starting to tour round units within the next eighteen months to hear from the so called, horses mouth. Regarding manning problems etc. I will say he is going to be in for one hell of a wake up call. How on earth he has managed to keep the lid on things up until now just mystifies me.:pDT_Xtremez_25:

Lets face it the whole force is already in the bin! I had to help the Fleet air arm out for 2.5 years with 150 other techies, they where down to 40% in the flying fish world! An it is going to happen to us! Who would help? The Army?!?!?!?!?!?

Whos to know what them up top are thinking. Its normally the pond life that come up with the common sense answers. And nothing is done until Bang something happens. We are still recruiting Bombheads and fairies but the heavy trade is closed but I dont think i will be long before were recruiting every trade. There may be some light at the end of the tunnel but if ppl that cant hack it still keep leaving then nothing will change its been going on for years and will never stop.
