Redknapp is contracted until 2011 at Fratton Park.
Allerdice would be my favourite as i think he could be even worse than Mclaren.
O'Neill would be silly to take the job, i think he will gte money at Jan to try and get a European spot.

Alex Mcleish?

He had already won the Uefa Cup and CL in back to back seasons with Porto.
And a couple of smei finals in the Champiosn League, with a relativly inexpierneced team-in European competition- is not too shabby.

The English team need a manager that isnt afraid to mix it a bit.[/QUOTE]

And that is where the problem lies. For years, the last person The FA would appoint is someone who could mix it, and have employed 'Yes' Men (Wilkinson, Keegan, Taylor and McLaren spring to mind). Until, The FA reappear from their lower colonic apertures and finally realise that maybe, not having a 'Yes' Man and letting the manager do his job, WITHOUT INTERFERENCE, and train, select and manage his players, then English football, as we know it, is going to disappear off the face of the Earth. Unfortunately, Maureen is one who likes to mix it, and is famed for standing up to his superiors if he thinks it's for the good of his team.

Somehow, I can't see someone like that EVER being selected as our national manager. Sadly.

We need a PROVEN manager, with an effective WINNING track record, with EXPERIENCE of managing top-class footballers.
McClaren was manager of Middlesbrough when became England boss - a side that prides itself on a mid-table finish.

Redknapp - What the freak has he ever done?

O'Neill - Oh yeah, did a great job at Leicester and Wycombe Wanderers, sides with a history of winning major trophies.

Allardyce - Got Bolton to the fringes of the UEFA Cup a couple of times. Hardly proven material!

Fabio Capello is the only one who stands head and shoulders above everyone and is quality enough to manage our national team. Mind you, it's a shame Phil Scolari isn't interested - he'd be my choice.

What the England football team needs is a manager who can make the players realise that they are NOT Playing for £2M but for 55 million people. Or "Jeez I`m at Wembley (even if it is the new one) there are 60,000 odd people here who want my place !" For the record ... as a Rugby Union man and long time Boro supporter/sufferer ... " Available to play IF selected " PRIDE is what`s missing not ability ... RANT OFF !

Just a thought when thinking about the new england manager.
Benitez, Wenger and Mourinho all good managers but they have had a pot of gold at club level to play with to bring in immense FOREIGN talent.

Now, Harry Rednapp has a history of producing talent at ground level.
Yeah ok I am a hammers fan and have spot for "Panda" but think about what he done at our abode.....Frank Lampard Jnr, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jermaine Defoe et al ,all now senior (ish) England players.
Harry would pick players on merit, not reputation or age.
We cocked up with the last manager.....lets not on this one!!!!!

Good shout, Stingray.

I immediately thought of Wenger, because of the quality football he prides himself on. However, when looking at it in more detail he is unsuitable for a number of reasons:

  1. He does not favour English players - as proven by the meagre amount of Englishmen in his 1st team squad. Will he be able to get the best out of players that he might not particularly rate?
  2. His players are technically excellent, have pace and superb movement - not something that you'd get if you're the England manager.
  3. His transfer judgement of picking English players is questionable - Richard Wright and Frannie Jeffers spring to mind.

I rate Wenger highly - I think Arsenal are lucky to have him, but as an England manager I think he falls just short. Having said that, if he was to be appointed I would not be in any way miffed.

If Sam Allardyce gets the job I'm changing my nationality :pDT_Xtremez_34:

Fat Sam's Aerial Assault Squads are OK at club level, but on the international stage you need to be a bit smarter than that.

yep, Fat Sam is not my choice. Love to see an English guy on board, but so few to choose from with credentials.

My man? Capello. A MUCH better coach.

Do we need a coach for international players they should have the required footballing skills already.
What's needed is a manager who can organise millionaires into an effective playing unit who can make them break sweat for the badge and the pride of doing well. FFS most of us would run through walls to wear the national shirt.

Non-league Yeovil knocked 1st Divison Sunderland out of the FA cup in the 1940's. When asked how they had done it the Yeovil manager replied "Rich men have no need to sweat"

Our next manager no idea but - Mike Basset England manager, well we could do worse.

They are all running scared off the job.
The media in England make it an impossible job.
I think Sven overachieved with England. A few really truelly World Class players, Terry, Rooney, Gerrard and a fit Owen arguably.
But thats it. There is no depth and too much hype. There are guys that are good players and a few with loads of potential but they are not up there with some of the other countries.
Also, attiude comes into. The arrogance especially!
Carrragher should be boo'd in every ground in the country. Really solid defender, was amazing for Liverpool in CL semis especially last few years but lost all respect for him
