Nice to see BA taking the initiative to buy Airbus rather than being forced to absorb then through aquisition but it will mean new jobs (and type ratings).
I note with interest (presentation to the masses on A400M) that A400M Pilots will get a Partial A380 rating because the aircraft systems are the same - nice for some eh? :pDT_Xtremez_06:

With A380 production in full swing and B787 just round the corner, RR will be pumping out plenty of motors in the coming years. Some good career opportunities exist with them at the moment, check out their website.

Talking to some mates with in RR - Right now there is a bit of a freeze on recruitment into the civil side of their operation however military is expanding and the energy section is set to expand to a size equal if not bigger than defence. They are now using Trents as stand by generators for nuclear power stations.

I was talking to my borther in law who works for RR and he mentioned job cuts too. Apparently they do it qute regularly between projects. Personaaly I'd have thought they'd be ramping up ready for Trent 1000 production but perhaps it's not being assembled at Derby after all.

Any of you going to the job fair at Leicester next thursday? RR are on the list of attending companies for it.

It is being assembled in Derby. I did a short contract there on the Trent 1000 and they have everything geared up to test them before release to service as well.

Amazing bit of kit.

Trent 1000 is going the Boeing 787 way whilst Trent 900 is on the A380. ( Although I believe that there is a GE engine for A380 too.)

Rolls is a good place, although heavily unionised, place to work. Loads of people there with an in depth knowledge about all things aero engines that borders on insanity.

My brother in law is one of the project leaders on Trent 1000. His engine was the one built for the frozen chicken test or the blade shedding test I think.

What do you mean by heavily unionised TW? I joined up straight from school so don't really know much about unions apart from what I see in the news and that never paints them in a good light in my opinion.

Is union membership "forced" upon you if you work there?
